Ground Game Update

Fresh October polling in the Senate race shows the Democrats gaining as fast as Obama in the presidential race. Democrats now have a 30% chance of getting a 60-seat majority, their highest polling result of the year. Getting 55-56 Senate seats is almost a given. MN is now leaning Franken, and Democrats elsewhere have added to their lead. My home state of Oregon is also ready to kick out the Republican incumbent, showing a 5-point lead for the Democratic newcomer.

In the voter registration race, Democrats are making huge gains all across the country. North Carolina, which was safe-Bush territory for the last two elections, now has a 13-point registration advantage for Democrats, and has increased independent registration as well. The percentage of GOP voters on the rolls has dropped by nearly two points in the same period of time.

Ground game: it's what wins elections. The GOP is plainly getting out-worked and out-hustled by the Democrats in 2008. Have eight years of Bush have made them fat and lazy?

You know I will be pleased when Obama wins on Nov4, as he will, but I do appreciate the view of people who don't want to see a supermajority. The democrats are, afterall, the lesser of two evils and even the biggest democrats here can mostly accept that fact. Do we really want them with too much power? The less power the republicans have the better, but if the dems do not have a super majority, it will have some what of a freezing effect on congress as a whole, so in that sense perhaps neither party has the power, and that's probably ideal at this time, because both parties stink of crap, it's just which one stinks more.

It takes a complete system shock to get certain people or parties to realize they've been wrong. The entire GOP isn't composed of Neocons like Bush, but it might take huge Congressional losses to get the rest of the party to realize they need to seek-out and exterminate the Neocons from their ranks.

Ed Rollins, a staunch GOP supporter, said on CNN recently that Republicans are on track to lose 25 House seats and 10 Senate seats according to his own projections. The GOP needs reform, and complete annihilation of their control in Washington is the first step.

The GOP has drifted so far from their principles, it's going to take the next 4 years just to find them again. Besides, the GOP is a better opposition party anyway. It took 6 years for the Dems to gain back power from a GOP-controlled Congress and White House, but only 2 years for the GOP to gain back power when the Dems controlled all those institutions in '92.

Absolutely I do. That is the only way we can break the log jam that's held this country back for 50 years. It is the only way we can get real change. If it fails the Republicans will get another chance or some third party person will make enough sense to attract more than three people.

Same here. I like the Democrats but I don't want them to be able to steamroll everyone else. Plus I want some gun rights activists in Washington. I'm afraid Obama's going to try to push through a new assault weapons ban or even other gun laws that might actually affect me personally (I only own a handgun but increased taxes on ammunition or California-style restrictions on magazine capacity would hurt me a lot).

I see the point about beating them so severely they cannot help but learn from it. They certainly deserve it over what they've done to the country in 8 years.
