I'm thinking about giving my wife an iPad. One of her friends has one and uses Grocery IQ and loves it.

The problem is that my wife's friend has an iPhone and my wife doesn't.

I know, I know. Stop being a cheap son-of-a-gun and get my wife an iPhone, too.

Is there any other way to get this functionality without buying an iPhone? She is currently using an LG Rumor Touch.

* iPod Touch (Cost: $300)
* iPhone (Cost: ?; monthly fees: $70?)

I like the ability to scan things at home, make grocery lists, have the device tell you what aisle the items are on, etc.

Maybe this solution exists for an Android tablet? But it would still have to synch with another device...

I guess she could take the iPad with her, but that seems kind of strange...

I guess she wouldn't *need* an iPad; maybe just an iPod Touch...

Thoughts?

Why is this in Highly Technical?

Yeah, get the iPod Touch from the Refurbished iPods and you'll have all the benefits of the iPhone without the monthly fees.

I guess I put it here because I was hoping for a non-Apple solution (Android, Windows mobile, etc.)

I am looking into getting a prepaid plan for an iPhone, too.

If you can find the Grocery IQ app on other platforms then you might be able to. However the problem will be Android doesn't have any actual phone sized devices that can be used without the phone, neither does WinMo7.

Id like an application that helps me out taking a shower. Its just way to complicated to remember all the steps. Have I already used shampoo?

I don't see the point in this.
