Groan - my current job situation

I just need to vent, as it is not a good situation. So, I've been at a company for 8 months doing Project Mgt type of work. Several months back, my old team leader decided to do some career pathing. Great...I'm game. She happens to be married to the guy in charge of our systems group, which is really where I want to end up in the LONG term. Short term focus was on the CISSP Exam (which I passed on 11/20). Here is where it gets interesting. Said former team leader leaves the company, only after telling the big boss that she had an agreement worked out for me to transition over to the systems group. Anyone see where this is going? Systems group has no opening....current big boss pulls me in one day and states that he has heard that I (a) do not like my job and (b) have been out looking. I *always* look, just to see the market.

Oh, the old team leads plan was for a 3-6 month transition....at the time, I did not really care to think about it since I was prepping for the CISSP. Now, she's gone...new team lead feels like crap because he believes I am going to get an ultimatim tomorrow - leave within 45/60 days or stay and be on probation with the possibilty of being fired at any time. Note - I have never received a performance review or any other form or write up to tell me anything that I have been doing wrong. By no means am I saying that I am the perfect employee....however I feel like Kevin Costner in No Way Out.

Sorry for the rant everyone.....just been on nerves all week about this. I have not told the significant other because she would flip out. I moved back to where we were at mainly for her and loved my old job. I do not resent her for this, but she will feel terrible.

I'm generally a very reserve person, however my brain and nerves are so fried at the moment, I had to share this with someone out there.

Life sucks at times, but I'll deal with it. Sometimes it just sucks more than others. I think lots of beer on Saturday will help....for a while.....

Sounds like your boss doesn't seem to think much of you in term of career promotions.

Your better off making a lateral mover wheither or not you get fired.

But I don't understand why ANY of this would piss your boss off? Why do you think you will be fired?

PolarNorth - to be blunt, because I was today. No whining.....a little annoyed at what was said about me and how it went down, but it's all water under the bridge. Okay, fired or asked to resign with 30 days pay, same thing.

Moral for the story: If you work for a small company, do not tell your team lead/boss that you have any future career plans other than taking their job when they move up.

Good points for the day: ISC2 told me that they are expiditing my CISSP Certification. I have an interview previously lined up for Monday and have 2 head hunters/employment agencies lined up and my blood pressure was still in the normal range when I went to my scheduled doctors visit. That and my wife did not cry when I told her.

As far as the career promotions, I did not want to be promoted in the job I was in. I've interacted with the guy who fired me more times this week than what I had in the previous 7+ months. How do you know what someone can or cannot do if there is no review or you do not know what they are doing? At this point, as long as they do not do something stupid and slander me when potential employees call, I could care less.

Again, sorry for the rant....it does take some anger away though.....

Look for another job. Stay where you are, unless they make you absolutely miserable, until you find one. Once you find one, walk. This company has no loyalty to you, and you should have none for them.

things to do:

1) get resume together...you should have ready at all times
2) look around for another job
3) hang on to current job as long as you can
4) negotiate for severance if it comes to that
5) save money in case...

You're getting your CISSP, with the intent of moving to Systems at some point. Chick who's married to Systems Lead leaves, and blindsides your boss saying you were supposed to transfer? So now you're boss thinks you don't want to work for him?
