well i decided to run my computer with memtest to see if my memory module was the reason why my computer was bugging up. turns out after 21k% of coverage the memory had had 248 errors. so im sending that back for an rma shortly. i dont think this has anything to do with it but yea. after this test i switched out the bad ram and put in my good ram that i had al;ready tested without errors. and when i turned on my pc i had no video and there was a small grinding type noise coming from the motherboard (i think) i couldnt really pinpoint the sound as it sounded like it was coming for 2 seperate places but it was definataley there. i left the computer alone with the power crd unplugged for about 3 hours before i tried it again. when i tried it again the noise was gone but i still had no video. someone help me out please.

Check that all your fans are spining and nothing are impeding their free movements. Sounds like you either had a fan dying or a harddrive dying.

I had a similar problem once, but it turned out to be the power supply. It was failing and was unable to provide enough power to all the components.

Doe the computer POST - i.e., do you hear a beep when booting?

Any chance the video card isn't secured properly? Any fans dislodged? Catching a ground on the mobo?

[SARCASM]I'm so sorry that we couldn't come up with an answer for you in under an hour. After all, we spend all our time on the forums and live to serve others.[/SARCASM]

Check all your fans to see that they don't have any cords stuck in them. Grinding noise was probably a fan cutting some power wires into bits.

This is a forum/message board, not a live chat room...

Anyway, I second or third the suggestions to check for cables etc. getting into a fan.

cables are fine and all the fans are fine also. i know its comign from the motherboard but i just dont know where. i tried 2 different video cards with the same outsome. im getting a new power supply in a couple days because i keep getting problems with my newly built machines but i always switch over the old power supply so im almost positive that the psu is the culpret. and sry if i sounded like a jerk when i said thanks for not helping me its just that my computer seems like its not working more than it is working and i just get frusterated.

do you have passive sinks on the north and south bridges, or are there fans there.
If not, I doubt it is coming from the mobo.. lack of moving parts you see.

well guyas i just turned on my computer after it was unplugged for about 24 hours and i put everything back together and it WORKS!!! this power supply is shot tho. i have a Asus A8n-SLl premium with the ez-plug slot and the wire that goes to that is all messed up so when i move it it will go off on and on. so the internal wiring is snapped. plus the volatages on the enitre psu are a little more off than i would like them to be so im prolly going to get a thermaltake truepower or something. if anyone has some ideas on a amazing power supply for under 100 dollars that has at least 500w than give me a shot and post away. im going to be buying it tomorrow so give me some ideas guys . thanks for all the help.

Maybe slightly off-topic: If you're talking about electrical hissing, it could be anything. Video cards are usually the loudest, and memory, PSU, chipset, mosfet, or any electrical trace on motherboard, or conflict between two or more of the said components. It is kinda unavoidable especially if your parts are high-end. (therefore very power-consuming)

Anyone who has had an open-air setup knows this. Yeah, no moving part = no noise in theory[/], but even without a fan, there is this thing called current and it's constantly moving as long as your rig is 'on'. :)
