I haven't played Grim Dawn in a long time because after thousands of hours I got a little burnt out, but I wanted to take a break and wait for the second expansion to hit before I jumped back in and I honestly forgot it was even out until Steam alerted me a few days ago. If anyone ever played Diablo 2 or Titan Quest, you're definitely going to love this game. The main gripe people had with Grim Dawn when it first came out was the sheer amount of unique loot to be found and the drop rates. It took Crate a while, but they finally found a really good medium for finding loot so that you're not plagued with playing for hours without ever seeing a single legendary piece drop. Last time I played, I was usually collecting three or four legendary pieces when I'd run through the rogue dungeons and with the way the new expansion has added challenge areas and other game modes, people are saying it's much easier to find better gear now (ie. much more newbie friendly).

[Expansion FAQ]

How much will the expansion cost?
Forgotten Gods is another major addition to Grim Dawn and is priced very fairly at $15.99.

When is the expansion coming?
The expansion is slated to release on March 27th, 2019!

Will there be new masteries?
Ashes of Malmouth brought the total number of mastery combinations to an impressive 28. But here at Crate Entertainment, we always do MOAR. So Forgotten Gods will introduce Grim Dawn's 9th mastery, bringing the total number of combinations to a staggering 36!

Check out our preview of the zealous Oathkeeper!

Will there be a new chapter of the story?
Forgotten Gods will feature another huge chapter of Grim Dawn's story, one we've been very eager to tell for many years. You will traverse burning sands, lush oases and volcanic wastes to reach the sun beaten ruins of a city with secrets that should never have been disturbed. The flames of a forgotten god have been rekindled, sending ripples through the Eldritch realm and sowing terror even among the Witch Gods themselves.

Will there be an increased Level cap?
In Forgotten Gods, you will gain additional Skill and Attribute points through quests and the upcoming Shattered Realm game mode, but there will not be an increase to the level cap.

Will there be an increased Devotion cap?
While Forgotten Gods will feature new Devotion Shrines and 9 new Constellations, the Devotion Cap will remain at 55.

The beauty of the Devotion System comes in the intricate paths and Constellation combinations players have developed over the years, and we want to be very careful about disrupting that balance by trivializing how you spend your Devotion points.

What are some of the new features coming with the expansion?
Forgotten Gods has many exciting new features we are very eager to get into your hands!

Learn about the Shattered Realm game mode, an intense new way to push your characters to new limits and earn powerful rewards.

Some of the tech that went into the Shattered Realm is also going to make existing content more dynamic and rewarding through the introduction of Challenge Areas!

We are also introducing awesome new mobility skills, which will be available to all characters through Rune Augments.

If you've ever struggled to complete an item set, you should definitely read about the Set Transmutation feature!

I just picked up the base game. Not sure how this flew by me but it did. I'm a big fan of POE and this looks like a cross between Diablo 2 and POE. All good things IMO.

Bought it recently. Fun for a while, but to me got repetitive real quick. I liked Titan Quest a lot. Yes, it was basically hack and slash to get loot, but it seemed to have a sense of purpose and direction in addition to that. Grim Dawn just seems so aimless and unfocused.

Have you even read any of the lore notes? Spoken to any of the NPCs? The lore is all there and Grim Dawn is extremely heavy on the story while also focusing on fast-paced action. Starting an ARPG is always going to be slow, but once you start using normal spells combined with devotion skills, it will pick up fast.

IDK, I could well be missing something. I have talked to pretty much every NPC, maybe have not read enough of the lore notes. I plan to get back to the game at some point, but now am playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Witcher 3 expansions.

I found both Titan Quest and Grim Dawn boring to start, but once you start advancing, and replaying new characters, both got a lot more addictive. I like seeing how characters evolve and getting to know how to make the most of my characters. At first, these games are a little overwhelming, and you don't see how to create good synergies, but as you play more, you start to see how, and that's when it becomes fun to me.

Yeah, they are (especially TQ) pretty slow at the start. You're using whatever you can find and being overpowered relies on RNG and which boss/enemies you're farming. Grim Dawn's drop rate for Epics (blue) and Legendaries (purple) is incredibly high - pretty much to the point that when I start a new character, I filter the loot to double rares and epics only and I can usually be completely outfitted by the time I reach The Warden. Though I do tend to reach Wightmire then head straight into Act 2 for Cronley (and Dynamite), reach Smuggler's Pass then go back and continue with The Hidden Quest and the other areas blocked by dynamite walls.

There are a few things (secrets) that help making new characters and with the shared stash (among utilities like GD Stash), once you make a decent character that can go the distance in Ultimate and farm the bosses and rogue dungeons, you can easily save up a ton of new gear for new characters to play later.
