I doubt it will settle down anytime soon. Lots of people are now willing to smoke a bit since they can't get arrested for it...but they just don't realize that they can still be arrested for it...or fired for it.

MAYBE, once it finally sinks in that "Legal doesn't mean acceptable in all situations."

Alcohol metabolizes out of the system pretty quickly...and with only a few exceptions, you can't get fired for being a smoker...but pot remains detectable for quite a while...so the joint you smoked at that rock concert a couple of weeks ago can cost you your job next week. (depending on the cut off in testing levels...Colorado and Washington use the standard of 5 nanograms of active THC per milliliter of blood for drivers, but employers can use a much stricter standard...or much more lenient. The law gives them the right to test or not test as they choose.

Was watching Sanjay Gupta on CNN. It still affects development. Causes brain changes if smoked before age 24. No bueno. What should be myelin sheathed white matter structures that connect different parts of the brain are grey matter in heavy pot users. Hence the "slowness." No thanks.

That being said it seemed to have medical applications so it shouldn't be schedule I either. Particularly anti-seizure properties in people who would otherwise be unable to live any kind of meaningful life. Seemed like a fair documentary.

You're still doing drugs.

In terms of driving, pot naive people were inhibited whereas habitual users had a tolerance and functioned normally, which poses problems for intoxication limits. One test won't fit all.

More-or-less the same thing can be said about alcohol consumption. I get seriously buzzed on two GOOD beers, yet most regular drinkers don't notice the effects until at least twice that much. Hell, my brother-in-law used to regularly consume at least one 12 pack every night...usually two of them...and he could still function better than I could on two beers.

I agree that "One test won't fit all," but since there's no way to test for tolerance, some standard has to be used for impairment.

Reaction times are dulled regardless of tolerance. Habitual drinkers seem to function better after drinking, but they are still not safe drivers.

I'm sure they'll still conduct some kind of field sobriety test which is what determines the "real" level of impairment. The breath/blood tests are just technical indicators of the presence of the substance and relative quantity of them in the blood stream.

I'd rather have 20 experienced stoned drivers on the road versus just one drunk that thinks he can drive.

how do you test for thc intoxication while driving

They do a blood test for 5ng/ml or greater. I'm not sure if that's only after failing a field sobriety test or just giving the officer enough probable cause like bloodshot eyes, odor and altered/odd behavior. Obviously it's a controversial and poor metric because of thc's propensity to linger in the system. I would hope that convictions would rely more heavily on FSTs, or that someone invents a better testing method.

They're not talking about showing up high but how THC stays in your system for weeks and you getting fired for it.

He doesn't understand that there is no way to tell if someone is high (outside of smell/red eyes).

Doing a drug test only tells you that the person did it within 30 day period...that's IT.

I know, right? Wasn't that many years ago that I drank a fifth of Crown Royal EVERY NIGHT...and never missed a day's work because I was sick or hung over...
What a drag it is getting old. (and sober)
