GRID demo

I've been playing the xbox 360 GRID demo the last couple of nights and it's a great demo. They gave quite a bit of gameplay I thought for just being a demo and I'm enjoying it even if the game is damn hard.

Anyway... my question is how do you do the drifting race and rack up the kind of points you need to compete? I do the race and I feel like i'm doing pretty good, sliding around corners.. not crashing *too* much... getting a couple of "awsome drifts" here and there.. I get ~50,000 points and feel pretty good about myself. Then the opponent gets 700,000+ :

lol. So what is the trick? I assume it's all about getting your multiplier up, but I can't seem to get the multiplier above 2 and even that is difficult sometimes. I'm obviously missing some key component of how this race works.

Thanks!

I also have the same question, I thought I did well with 200,000+ but like OP said, computer always gets 700,000+!!!!!

Yep, that's it. Also, get as close to those flags as possible as it realllly adds points.

Yea I don't really get the flag thing ... it seems like I'm right on top of them sometimes and I get nothing, and other times it seems like i'm nowhere near them and I get a "awsome drift" or some such thing. I just don't see how the required scores are possible.... 700k would be around 275k'ish per lap.... on a good race I get 50-80k total in 3 laps.
