Sounds almost like the same work as the hijackers - only this time much more sloppy and desperate.

A crazy person on a bus? Are you kidding me? That's just not possible....

heh

Crazy people are built into busses as far as I know cause there has been at least one on ever bus I've ever been on :)

This is true.

I was on a greyhound bus a couple months ago & there was a guy that wouldn't shut the hell up and the bus driver had to nearly kick him off the bus. Plus the bus station was like a refugee camp. I will do my best in the future never to take a bus again (but I made that promise before this happened).

In any case, it is terrible and say...

On 9/10, this would NEVER have been national news...

On 9/12, it is enough to cause GreyHound to shutdown their entire bus system...

The world, for better or worse, is now a different place...

Absolutely it would have been. A drivers throat being cut and a dozen passengers dying doesnt happen anyday. The implications this has today as opposed to 4 weeks ago is much larger, but I work in the media, and this would have made front papers anyday.

This has to just be a crazy man..
He kept asking what time it was and wanted to sit in a womans seat at the front, when she said no he went to the driver and did his evil deed....

Why have they not disclosed the nationality of the attacker? That gets me worried. That makes me think it is terrorist related...

This is just sickening. What has our country come to? Man, there's too many loonies out there. I grew up in NYC; Homeless Person Capital of The United States. Every single streetcorner has multiple bums begging money. You can't go to a park in NYC and expect to sit on a bench, because every bench has a homeless person sleeping on it.

Most of the folks are mentally ill. You'll see them sitting there screaming at no one in particular. They come up to you and call you "Mary" even though you are a guy...it's sad and scary at the same time.

Anyway, what it's coming down to is that we are going to have separate, armoured compartments with a separate door for bus drivers and plane pilots to sit in, because the general population can't be trusted with access to them. This sucks. When I was a little kid back in the 70's the world was such a wonderful place....I wanna go back. :(

You aren't the only one who longs for seemingly simpler times.

However, I am not sure times were EVER really simple... but with the saturation of media these days we now know about EVERY SINGLE phucked up thing that happens.... and it takes its toll on us eventually.

I dont know.... I just remember things not being so hopelessly phucked :(

That might have been an insult ;)

If you see a situation like this unfolding in front of you, you may have the opportunity to choose to put your life in danger in order to make someone else safer. We all have to be alert for any terrorist or copycat attacks that happen around us, and hopefully respond to them in a way that will save people's lives.

This is just a reflection of our society. Especially over the last 2 decades. In my state, they closed down the public "mental institution" because the state refused to pay for it - cost cutting. Those people then became homeless and were put out on the streets.

What are these people supposed to do? They're out of their minds, can't get the medication they need, and have no place to go.

On this incident, I would think by now if someone is on any form transportation and sees someone making a commotion, they would rush to take them out fast. Obviously, there are still a lot of people who haven't learned from the 9/11 attacks.

Amtrak is making a killing off these events... airline and bus shutdowns... and Amtrak is still accepting tickets..
Damn.... train,..... it's the only way to travel now.

Amtrak said the rail service would honor Greyhound tickets on Amtrak trains, providing space is available.

Very sad indeed. I know that section of I-24 fairly well. Drove it many times. Sounds like some copycat a-hole did this.

Those who yearn for "simpler times" in the past when we "didn't have to worry about this stuff" - grass is greener. I think that for us at least the world is a better place to live than it ever has been before - well maybe early September it was anyway. Maybe kids weren't killing kids at school in the 70's, but there were other worries such as nuclear attack. I'll take my odds with a crazy gunman vs. a crazy country with nukes any day.

On 9/10, this would NEVER have been national news...

On 9/12, it is enough to cause GreyHound to shutdown their entire bus system...

Point #2 is probably correct. However, this would certainly have been national news. A couple months ago some guy in Georgia (?) killed 3 (?) people in a store with a handgun and that made news. Today 6-10 died from a mad man - it still would have made news before.

Damn.... train,..... it's the only way to travel now. Planes are still flying. They are often similar in cost to a train and a hell of a lot faster.

I disagree. In the past, there were often certain rules in warfare. Even in the American Revolution, I think only 1 woman was killed. In the Civil War, only a few woman and children were killed. The Battle of Gettysburg, the bloodiest battle in American history, only saw 1 woman shot by accident.

Since the 20th century, anyone is considered fair game in warfare. Mass annihilation can take place whereas in the past, wars were localized in cities or certain areas.

In my mind, clearly technology has not been a panacea for mankind.

I saw a quote somewhere from Janes Intelligence saying that the last 50 years leading up to the present have been THE most dangerous time, but the public just doesn't realize it.

Congressman Bob Clement just said on the radio that there was a bomb threat on a Greyhound in Texas concurrent with the Tennessee hijacking. The bus driver told the doctor that treated him that the hijacker was "a foreigner".

EDIT: Just heard maybe not a bomb threat, but a threat of another hijacking.
