I used to work in landscaping in HS during one summer, i would spread some weed and fungi killer at the end of summer beggining of fall, so it has time to work before temps fall below 40

then in the spring dump more grass seed and started fertizlizer to patch it up and get it thick, and do some overseeding, then after the first cut, by some summer guard (scotts has a really nice procut), and do a very VERY! light coating (becuase its still new grass and needs to establish roots) of it and water well, eventually all those buggers will be gone, and youll have a very nice green lawn by middle of next summer.

Set it on fire, set it ALL on fire.

My dad has actually done this. Set the whole thing on fire and started from scratch a few weeks later :)
Fire work well for moss control with thatching, because the grass rizone is protected by the outer grass shell & is underground. However, fire is not very effective against plants that have taproot such as dandelion that is between 6-18 inches underground.

P.S

Thanks for the wallpaper :)

I just cut the grass sunday, that's what's f'd up about this

I guess I really don't care much, cause the neighbor doesn't do anything to his yard either. Plus, this is in the fenced in area where my kids play, so chemical is out of the question as far as I am concerned. I did treat the front yard to keep up appearances.

The real problem is, the house was owned by two elderly couples in a row, and then by the lazy pothead I bought it from. The yard has hardly been touched in I'd guess 10 years

I must be a pyro or something...I just went out with my propane tourch and flamed all the white seed carriers.

all that remains is the seed on the plant head. Got me thinking....anyone have a neighbor they don't like...one that works hard on their yard. I could go cultivate a pound or two of dandelion seeds for you :)

It is best to check with the local seed store or garden center, because there are many varieties of seeds & applications.

It is best to use the herbicides in early spring & late fall and most would be okay to play on after a couple of weeks, and manufacture suggest 48 hours with 2,4-D (all broad leaves drop within 24 hours). With carefull usage you might beable to savage the lawn with out reseed/sod. However, it will be a long battle and much herbicide usage.

Rotortilling the soil with out chemical treatment will work, however it will leave a few dandelion to be dealt with after reseed/sod.

Best is to give your local profesional a call and find out what you options are.

Good luck!

we have one of 2 completely dandelion free lawns in my neighborhood. the other one is next door to us. both of us have a lawn care pro come in and fertilize the lawn numerous times over the summer, doing the pre-emergant, and what not.

The images below are of my new lawn 16 days old sun/shade mix seed (Kentucky Blue, Rye, Fescue, and Bent). Total cost for 4000 sq feet is about $95 USD for equipment rental, seed and, fertilizer (have my own rakes and shovels) ++ 2 days of hard work. And, no herbicide.

Seed germinated in about 3-4 days, which is a few days quicker than anticipated.

First mowing will be the coming weekend or when the grass dorn the forth leaf.
