Earlier today, activists from Greenpeace descended upon Mt. Rushmore and posted a banner reading "America honors leaders not politicians: Stop Global Warming." The massive banner measured 2,300 square feet and featured a picture of President Obama. The stint was to bring attention to global warming -- Greenpeace feels that Obama has not done enough to fight climate change.

Fine/Jail them - whatever is on the books for trespassing, and no more media coverage.

I think it represents stupidity. China has surpassed the USA as the world's biggest polluter and India isn't far behind. Nothing the US does matters since those two have completely rejected any attempt to constrain their growth.

The USA will only be hurting itself with this stupid cap & trade bill and similar restrictions.

Trespassing and stupidity. They'll need a good ass kicking in addition to the jail time if the damaged the monument in any way.

This is difficult for me:

1. I hate Greenpeace.

2. Mt Rushmore is a pathetically useless monument. waste of space and money; and actually extremely offensive use of sacred land.

so, i don't really know what to think of this. /shrug

"Greenpeace feels that Obama has not done enough to fight climate change."

He's been in office for what, 6 months? People expected Obama to be a miracle worker. Let me tell you, it ain't happenin'. Washington, D.C. is a miracle-free zone.

I'd like an option for "obnoxious attention whoring." Or something similar.

It makes me laugh and cheer. I also laugh at the "jail them" comments... Does your stupid pseudo-fascist monument really mean that much to you? I'd like to know exactly where they harmed anybody or did anything morally reprehensible. You guys are fucking cry-babies.

my main complaint, again, is that it is the most ridiculous tourist trap that I've ever experienced. what a waste of resources.

Are you suggesting that we should harvest all of the granite in the Black Hills?

SOME of what Greenpeace does is OK IMO. I support their quest to protect the whales...and to a degree, even the baby seals...

But shit like this...fuck em. Throw them off of George Washington's forehead...

Where's the choice for all three? Attention whoring, trespass, and attention whoring? And free speech I suppose. If you do civil disobedience, be prepared to do the time/fine that goes with it. My plan for Mt Rushmore is a bit more sophisticated involving a civil war mortar and Nickelodeon slime. Kind of the world's largest kleenex ad.

Edit: Just looked at the link. Their banner sucks. Give them an extra 5 days for lack of imagination and creativity.
