maybe they should fix their damn polluting ship and this wouldn't happen.

why is it that the hippies with save the world and enviro stickers are always driving around in 30 year old vw's belching black smoke?

Hippies usually don't have much money. Besides, vw's are cool, man! ;)

Seems like it was just an accident. Instead of pointing fingers, they took full responsibiity -- something that many other people simply wouldn't do.

Dude, nice misinformation... Watched Armagedon once too often did we?

The Greenpeace ships not only conform to the highest enviromental standards, they wrote most of them too.

[edit]Thats not the site I wanted to post, it used to show more ships and their enviromental standards.

Who friggin' cares about responsibility? The fact of the matter is that they caused damage to a coral reef -- something which undoes years and years of growth. They are one of the most rabidly ardent eco-terrorist organizations out there, yet they do that which they decry. Apologies and fines don't fix the damage they caused. Based on their history, they must be held to a MUCH higher standard in this case. The worst part is they try to deflect criticism by saying that it happens all the time there. Well, wonderful, glad you continued the trend.

Where are French special forces when you need them?

So I'm guessing you have a suggestion as to what they should do to repair what can't be repaired?

Nicely wedged in "terrorist" there too. Bravo.

The fact is, if it was any other ship that "accidentally" caused damage, no matter if they said they were sorry or not, this group would have been yelling up and down.

I guess since they write the rules, they can break them. :disgust:

When and where did they break the rules? They damaged the reef, they payed the fine. Nobody got away with anything. If the fine was lower than usual (and I don't know that it was or wasn't) then you might be justified in your statement. As it stands, you are not. Either way, I hope that they fix whatever was responsible for their mistake, be it human or mechanical and can prevent it happening again.

Theres 2 things that really piss me off about the sotry.

1) The monetary fines will do NOTHING to repair the coral. The damage is done, and only time (Alot of it) will fix it.

2) The captain of the ship blamed his outdated maps. BULLS#^$!! YOU are the captain. YOU are ultimately the one responsible for what happens on the ship, to the ship or by the ship. Typical liberal asshat trying to shift blame and be a victim..."Its not MY fault, the map was outdated!"

:|

Being a certified diver and having dove some coral reefs, as well as having a large interest in the oceans, this story in particaulr REALLY makes my blood boil.

no matter how the Greenpeace apologists want to rationalize this it still makes Greenpeace look bad.
just like the firehouse starting on fire, the irony is painfully obvious.

I was all set to berate you for coming up with out sources etc. Until I did a little research on my own and found out that the amounts fined in the past have been up to $350,000. And possibly more that I didn't find. Maybe they took into account that the maps they were provided with (by the philipine government) showed them being 1.5 miles away from the reef. Still, check your instruments people. I keep a constant eye on my depth as shown by GPS, fish finder and my paper charts. It isn't difficult, it shouldn't have happened.

Wasn't it a forestry worker that burned a love letter and started that big wilderness fire in Cali a year or 2 ago?

Greenpeace blames the accident on what it called inaccurate navigational charts provided by the Philippine government.

umm, they paid the fine but they are blaming others

That's almost as good as the thread where the beached seal bit off that tree hugger's nose who was trying to put it back in the water.

Here ya go Link to the thread which also has story link in it. Some amusing attempts at puns in the thread.
