green light on the motherboard

I just built a new htpc. after putting everything together when I turned the power nothing happened and there is only a green light on the motherboard.

I thought that PSU is faulty. so tried to jump start the PSU and
it works fine.

took everything out and tried to put it again and still its the same.

to check if RAM is faulty, removed the RAM and powered it up and still its the same?

is the PSU not giving enough supply to power the board? or could the motherboard will be faulty? if the motherboard is faulty can the green light still work?

can someone help me on what could be wrong?

Do a minimal install outside the box with one stick of ram, gpu, cpu and, no hdd. Make sure the one stick of ram is in the right slot for that configuration. Make sure your case connectors are correctly oriented with respect to pin one. Look for the embossed triangle on each plug and do not depend on labels. Is there an additional 4 pin power supply for your board and is it plugged in? Does your gpu require a secondary power supply? Please post your specs so we can help you better.

I have only one stick of RAM and its connected closest to the CPU. I tried it on the other slot too and still no luck. ( the RAM is 4gig ddr3 1333)

I dont have a GPU. removed the hdd and dvd drive and tried it already.

Both the 2x12 and the 2x2 are connected properly.

my specs are:
motherboard is Intel DH57JG
processor is Intel i3 550
RAM is 4gig ddr3 1333 (one stick) Patriot PSD34G13332
No GPU
case is apex mi-008 ( the psu is 250W, it comes with the case)

The light near the 24-pin power connector? That should be on. Make sure your front panel header is plugged in correctly. White cables are generally negative.

Yes its the green light near the 24-pin power. so does that light can glow even if everything works good? or it will only glow if something is wrong??

can the power switch on the case be bad?

No, the green light is good and means the motherboard has power and so should all of the peripherals then if they are connected properly.

No booting typically means the RAM, CPU or PCI-E card is not properly seated. It could also mean the CPU Fan/Heatsink is not properly mounting the and CPU is heating up too quickly.

This is possible. Try connecting the the 2 pins (Power sw) together on the motherboard with something metallic and see if it boots (you should only need to hold it there enough for a connection).

if the RAM is bad, still the cpu fan should spin correct?

and if I connect the sata cable from the psu to the dvd drive, shouldn't the dvd drive eject button work?

Correct. I mentioned a minimal install outside the box so as to eliminate the possibility of the MB shorting against the case.

If this is your first build, make sure you put the pegs in underneath the motherboard. If you didn't, the board will fry on the case. I made that mistake some years ago with my first build (a twin build actually, so I fried both mobos but luckily I still RMA'd them due to ECS's stupidity).

I took the motherboard outside the case, connected just the cpu and RAM and tried to turn it on and still it wont.

just the green light on the motherboard near the 12v pin. neither the cpu fan nor the psu fan spins.

guys finally it worked. I connected the floppy drive 4 pin to the motherboard where you need to connect the chasis fan, and thats the reason nothing happened.

as soon as I removed the floppy 4 pin from the motherboard it worked fine and it booted up.

thanks all for your help.
