Green light is always on in my new TDK CD-RW..

I just installed the drive and I noticed that the green light on the front of the drive is always on.. From when I turn on the computer until I turn it off.. It obviously isn't working, either, since it says that the drive isn't accessible any time I try to few it's content. What could I have done wrong?

I just fixed the same problem with my floppy drive. I had the ide cable in upside down. Not sure if it will work in this case but it's worth a shot. Make sure the cable has the red stripe on the side it is supposed to.

I remember having this exact same problem with my floppy drive as well.. But I'm sure that it's in correctly and everything.. I even disconnected my CD-ROM drive and tried almost every combination I can think of, still no luck...

I'm reaching here but maybe double check your jumper settings? I think mine came pre-set as master though.

Yeah, mine came pre-set as master as well.. My CD-ROM is using slave, too.. But right now, the CD-ROM isn't even hooked up.. My primary IDE cord is going to one hard drive and the secondary IDE cord is going to the CD-RW.. Still no luck.

Alright, I found out something else.. If there's a blank CD in there and I try to open it up, it says that the device isn't ready.. If I put in a data CD, the CD-RW works as a CD-ROM drive and I can access the files on the CD and everything.. Is this normal or what? I still only have the CD-RW plugged in..

I remember in the TDK manual there were 3 different ways to set up the burner. I think it was something like master on ide 1, master on ide 2 or master with no cdrom. Something like that. I would probably re-read the manual. Maybe something will jump out at you.

If it is reading your data cds fine then all should be well. It is saying it is not ready when you open with blank media because it has nothing to read. When you highlight it, it should say CDROM, and how much space used and how much avaliable. You cant open a blank CD My Plextors have two lights, one which indicates the drive is on, and one to indicate that a CD is in the drive..and also has another set of indicators indicating low and high bit during recording

If there is a CD in my TDK, the light stays on no matter what, no matter what type, blank or not. Do you always have a disc inside the drive (yes I know its simple but the simple things are the most vexing)? I agree with Mastertech completely in the fact that the drive appears to be working properly. Try writing a CD, if it works, then I wouldnt bother futzing with it. Its not like a floppy problem since you cant install the cable upside down, and yes, all of the TDKs come set as master.
