woot?

high octane green gasoline requiring no change to engines, no change to pipelines, no change to gas stations. and made out of pretty much any plant fiber. sounds good. however, $1 per gallon is at 100% efficiency (probably 100% conversion rate, rather than efficiency). so i wonder what the cost is at the 50% rate they've already achieved?

Its BS. They've (energy companies) got us by our testicles and the grip is not going to loosen. If this ever gets out (which I highly doubt) watch the next press release say $2.50/ Gallon... then $3 then the going market rate which of course will be subject to global markets and speculative trading.

The oil companies will snuff this out. They're making to much $$ right now.

if an oil company were to purchase this tech they would have plenty of resources to devote to making it. if the cost actually were $1 a gallon, the seller could make a sh!t ton on it selling it to the public ("i can be green and save $0.20 a gallon, sign me up!")

too bad it doesn't work like this for portland general electric. i don't know what it's like for other electric companies but PGE actually charges more for energy produced from "green" sources

and more on topic...
it doesn't really matter what "cheap" gasoline alternative comes out of the woodworks. it could cost 3¢/gallon to produce and we'd still get ripped.
"they're used to paying $4/gallon now, so that's what we'll charge"

They charge more for the Green alternatives because they cost more, for now.

They have to charge more than the regular price to get their investment back. Once that happens, it should go down.

They can replant the trees... they don't have to cut down old growth forests.

true, but instead of punishing those who choose "green" why not charge everyone else something like $0.001/kwh extra and give the four "green" people a slight break. wouldn't that give people more incentive to sign up for it while the millions who don't each pay a negligible amount to finance research and deployment?

the way pge handles it makes it look like a sham p.r. stunt

edit - i meant charge everyone else extra. i forgot a pretty important word ;)

Vs gas made from really really old trees and animals.

Gas made from new trees can be made renewable, and should have no net carbon footprint, as the trees were grown and burned in the modern era.

I'll still gamble that electric cars are the way of the future. (Or is it wave of the future?)
I've got high hopes for that silicon nanofiber lithium ion technology (20x normal Li-ion capacity).

Wow, you better keep that Insight running then. I don't think you will be seeing this green gas for the next decade or so. Heck, I'm still waiting for the hydrogen car BMW said I'd be driving by now. That was back in the mid 80's I think.

I plan on it. Hopefully it keeps going.

It's already eaten a transmission, unfortunately. That was 1500$. It was just a bad used specimen, the previous owners either beat the shit out of it, or the input shaft bearing was a lemon from the start.

The hybrid battery is going to need to be replaced soon; hopefully before the 150,000 mile warranty runs out.

Other than that, I think its pretty solid. I need to adjust the valves again.
