Greenday started to suck when they became political. Why do celebs always think their opinions matter?

Aren't we all entitled to opinions? Music is just another art form, and literature, art, film, etc. have had opinions and political undertones for generations - why are we so offended when musicians speak their mind?

I gag at country singers who sing about trucks, baseball, and good ol' American ways, but I don't say that their opinions don't matter - they just don't personally matter to me.

This.

If you don't like the "message" or opinion an artist is proclaiming with their music then don't listen to their music.

How hard can that be?

System of a down are a group of outstanding musicians who do quite a lot for their community and causes.

I respect them so much more than the britney's/lady gagas of the world who just sing about fucking and partying - boo to them for having a message! I hate people who attempt to make a difference! I personally feel that music can't change a person's politics, but I can only give my respect to people who try to enlighten, even if I don't agree with the message.
