A friend of mine just purchased an Athlon XP 1600 from NCIX.com (Canadian Site).
To our surprise, the packaging is green!
A few sites have indicated that the Green packaging is due in May or June of this year.
Did this fellow get an early green XP 1600?

Thanks in advance.

Probably an early one.

AMD are changing over to the green fiberglass substrate in line with their company colours.

I thought they were better brown, because you could easily distinguish between an AMD and an Intel processor.

Well - you still can, as long as they're fairly recent - i.e.: have the integrated heatspreader.

Otherwise, it'll only take a glimpse to find out if it's an Intel or an AMD by looking at the logo, with the older versions of P3/Celeron that did not have the IHS. I like the IHS - gives the core extra protection, definately a good move :D.

Eventually all the XP's will be green, we've been shipping them for 1-2 months now, on and off. It does make it a little confusing ID'ing the parts.. :)

Is there any truth to the rumor that these new green XP processors won't run in SMP mode any longer?

Thanks

Anyone know? I bought a "refurbished" XP 1900 from Newegg and it's all green. Sortof bugged me out to see that but I assumed all of them were like that (since this is my first). Guess not! :p

Anyone know how good it is? I'm about to give it a go with OCing.
