Green Anole In The House

Carbo

Diamond Member
My cat apparently has a taste for these things, but yesterday instead of mauling her prey she chased it into the house via an open patio door. So now I am staring at a 15" green anole on the wall of the dining room. He's up near the ceiling, behind the china closet, making himself inaccessible. Any suggestions? I'd like to see the poor guy survive this ordeal and get back outside to do whatever it is green anoles do.

my bro has one as a pet (6" green anole), they are pretty passive and eat things like small insects. If you can take him down and put him in a tree, im sure he will be fine.

Wow, that's one big mofo!!!
Hehe. . .still think I should just "get on a chair and grab him"?

It's not going to bite you, it has no teeth. It'll squirm around though.

How about placing a waste basket over him against the wall and then sliding a piece of cardboard or something against the wall to trap him in the waste basket?

Yeah, that seems like a way to catch him. But he seems mighty shy and is quick to run back behind the china closet when I take a few steps towards him.

Average. Three year old girl, around 9 lbs, could stand to lay off the lasagne and lose a pound. Here she is in action against another lizard of some kind last summer.

We have them here too.
You know they don't grow 15" long right? 8-9" max.
Here's a pic I just took. If this guy is 8", then my prick is 20". 🙂

I don't think that's a Green Anole... the markings / pattern is off.

Yep that is not a Green Anole. They don't get that big.
Wiki

It is however one big ass lizard.
Hmmm. It doesn't look like the one in the pics. So I wonder just what the heck this thing is? Is this a Galapagos Island stowaway?

South Florida. These guys are pretty common. But not so in my damn dining room.

Did some quick research. As best as I can tell, this guy appears to be a Knight Anole. The markings and size of my new pet seem to fit the description.

Just Grab it around the middle. Even if it wanted to, there's virtually nothing it could do about it. Unfortunately, this might involve some chasing around the house. Once you get it outside, just put it in a tree and it'll be fine (assuming your cat doesn't come back for more 🙂 ).

Yes we call them Cuban Anoles. 🙂

Domesticated ones are a fair handful. I can only imagine a wild one. :Q

They can bite like iguanas and whip you with their tails. No real trama but be prepared if you handle it - wear gloves! A lizard bite that breaks the skin in no joke! I saw a guy that got bit by an iguana in St Thomas - very small break in the skin. No big deal right? Wrong! The next day his entire arm was swollen up and he had to be hospitalized. Don't play with the lizard!
