"Green" 1+ TB drive recommendations based on reliability?

I feel like every "green" 1+ TB hard drive I read reviews about on Newegg arrives DOA for 2/3s of the people that buy them. For this reason, I'm left second guessing every drive out there. However, I'm sure 90% of the people who buy drives that actually work don't write reviews.

I'm looking for a few 1+ TB "green" drives to go in my Windows 7 home media server. I'd like this box to be fairly quiet and cool. My OS will be going on a separate smaller 7200 RPM drive.

What brands have you had success with? Newegg makes me feel like they are ALL unreliable.

Just go for it... cant think much of such reviews, these high capacity drives are less reliable in general compared to the lower capacity ones, but at the same time they are cheap as shit. If you are worried about data, just use mirror raid.

I've had tons (20+ now) of green drives and only one has failed and that was my fault (let it drop while on in an external enclosure.)
Newegg reviews are more unreliable than the drives they are reviewing. :)

I've used 15 1TB and 2TB WD, Hitachi, and Samsung 5400rpm drives and they have all worked fine for me.

hitachi 59$ special working good so far. I've got 2 hitachi and 2 wd about 2 years old rocking out in a nas. JUST DONT USE THEM FOR RAID - stick to jbod.

1. format long
2. fill up many times
3. format again
4. usually will fail in a day or two.

I do this for all drives honestly, sas 900gb or sata 2TB RE4.
