I swear, the U.S. should sell tin-foil beanies to the other countries at the Olympics. The soccer coach from Brazil said that the U.S. women's team was deliberately trying to injure his players so they couldn't compete.

which game did the coach say that? because in the final it seemed like they were trying to take our women out. or maybe it was good editing by NBC....

I haven't been following the running competition, but isn't Kenya usually the dominant country for running? Or is that for long distance type things, as opposed to sprints?

I don't know which particular game the quote was from, it was in the newspaper after the Germany/U.S.A game but before the Brazil/U.S.A. game.

It was from the prior game that Brazil/US played.

The 200m was an awesome race. It wasn't even close. 100, 200 and 400, the US has the fastest men in the world. Wait until the relays. We could be seeing a WR going down.

FOR CHRIST SAKE THEY WERE NOT BOOING THE AMERICANS!!! The SH!T NBC announcers just said that because they have this liberal idea that Americans are evil. The Greeks were booing the fact that their prized-athlete was not there to run the 200m after having missed two drug tests and leaving the games...and then getting into a motorcycle accident. That 200m race was the hottest ticket in Athens for over a year, and they were pissed he wasn't there. Some Athenian newspapers have gone so far as to say that the Americans gave their athlete drugs to force him out of competition. That's BS, so in the end, the Greeks need to simply boo their own.

hmm...all I can say is that from some news readings and from what I saw, the booing did get a bit louder when they introduced the Americans. So I think there were at least some in the crowd booing the Americans.

I watched it last night too. I was thinking right before the race "They're gonna run 1,2,3 and shut those bastards up."

Well, the audio was such that I never heard the PA even announce our runners, so I don't think the booing was in response to that. They were booing simply to delay the start and protest the absence of their athlete.

Blame America for everything, and people, in general, will eat it up.

Finishing 4th would not have gotten him a medal either, so why were they so upset?

I tend to think that GTaudiophile is on the right track. When they did the medal ceremony there was no booing which I would have expected a lot of if it was simply aimed at the Americans.
