Greatest Goats of Professional Sports

Inspired by a baseball post on this same forum, I name you my Greatest Goats of professional sports, and they come from my beloved Braves. Let's try and limit it to sorry SOBs/Unlucky SOBs that lost the big one for ya, and not just players we hate.

1. Ted Turner. SOB was enuf of an SOB for being married to Fonda, but then he got sucked up by AOHell. Still have a hard time sleeping at night thinking of my beloved braves being owned by AOHell. I think the carma of being owned by AOHell will be enough to keep the Braves away from a ring, so that's why he gets on my list. And yes, I know there was nothing he could do to stop the merger.

2. Mark Wohlers. Hung that damn slider to Jim Lehritz. Lost the damn series for the Bravos IMO. Like I already said in the other post. If you fire a 100 MPH fastball, you think "Major League" If you can hit it you can rename it. Friggin Masterbator, that's why he will always be. I was glad when he lost his cool and had to go to the MINORS.

3. Aguilera. POS Closer. FAHQ.

but i suppose i should be happy he blew those games....meant i got to be AT game 7. yup...most amazing night my life.

Continuing the same topic - the Braves - lets examine some of the players that have come and gone in the last few years.

1) Bret Boone. He STUNK for the Braves. Well, no, that's not true - he was just the same Bret Boone he always was. .250 hitter with 20 HRs. They trade him and what do you know, he's an allstar.

2) Reggie Sanders. The year before they got him he hit over .300, 20 or 30 something HRs, and stole over 30 bases. What does he do with the Braves? Hits under .200 for a good portion of the year before getting hurt. They trade him and wham, he's back to his allstar form.

3) Quiliveo (sp?) Veras. He hit .330 I believe for Sandiego the year before the Braves got him, and then he stunk for them before getting hurt.

They try to improve their team, but it seems they're cursed. I have bad feelings about Sheffield this year.

As a Mets fan (die Braves ) I'll say Buckner. Great player, bad error.

I'll give non-props to Timo Perez/Todd Zeile. More to Timo. If you don't remember, in the 2000 world series, Todd Zeile hit a ball off the top of the wall. Timo thought it was going out and didn't really run. He was thrown out. I cried.

Charles Smith of the Knicks for missing 4 layups in the Finals.
Patrick Ewing for missing a finger roll in 1995 i think it was in the Eastern Conference Finals.

So, anyone think the Mariners (116 wins) have a goat for not winning last year. With the exception of one game, none of their bats showed up vs. the Bombers.

And yes, Boon-e was nothing for the Bravos, and I'm thinking he's a one-year wonder.

i'll also have to put in a vote for Gary Anderson against the Falcons that would have sent the Vikes to the super bowl. i was at that game too.....i sat there in disbelief until the security kicked us out.

The US ended up winning the game 2-1 and advancing to play Brazil in the second round while Colombia did not qualify for the second round (incidentally, they were the only team from the group that did not qualify for the second round).

-Peter Angelos (running the Orioles into the ground, good thing I hate them too )
-Esa Tikkinen (played on the caps the year they reached the stanley cup, missed a WIDE OPEN goal in game 2 (i believe) that cost them that game and any possible momentum...sadly I love the caps
-Dyson (WR ran his pattern just about a yard short of what he needed to run to reach the endzone)
-Scott Norwood
-Fred Merkle (he doesnt deserve goat status, but he always gets it anyways)
-Mitch Williams (sad, such a great player)
-countless referees and umpires

I used to like the Lakers when they had Worthy, but mostly because everyone in my family loved the Celts and Bird. I was hoping that Riles could win another Title since I liked him, but also hoping the Knicks lose b/c I have always hated the Knicks.

What was Starks that game? Somthing like 2-17 or whatever wasn't he?

Yea, not too long after the team returned to Colombia if I remember correctly. I think he was shot like 6 times or something like that while he was in his car one night.

That wasn't even Kim's fault. He had pitched WAY too much in those games. It was BBAAAD managing.

Mike Torrez--grooved the fastball on 2-2 count that Bucky (expletive) Dent hit over the Wall in the playoff in Fenway.
Gerry Thomas--FL State Kicker missed 40 yd--WIDDDDDDEEEE Right.
Miami Heat--shoot 13-34 from the line in Game 7 against the Knicks (losing by 2) and miss a chance at the NBA finals

You're wrong about Quilvio Veras. Before he got injured, he was a fine player, hitting well about .300 and having a ton of stolen bases. After his injury... you're right about that
