87. "Barbie Girl" by Aqua (1987)

i found an error. Barbie Girl was 1997, not 1987.

OH MY GOD, i just listened to the audio clip from Convoy by C. W. McCall(#73). I finally get the damned song out of my head and i listen to it! ARGH!!

'Cause we got a little ol' convoy
Rockin' through the night
Yeah, we got a little ol' convoy,
Ain't she a beautiful sight?
Come on and join our convoy
Ain't nothin' gonna get in our way
We gonna roll this truckin' convoy
'Cross the U-S-A
CONVOY! CONVOY!

Did I miss it or is American Pie not on there?

Don McLean also had a minor hit with "Vincent". He was a two-hit wonder.

I know Vincent better than i know American Pie.

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul...
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land.
Now I understand
What you tried to say, to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free:
They would not listen; they did not know how --
Perhaps they'll listen now.

Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue
Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand.

Now I understand
What you tried to say, to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free:
They would not listen; they did not know how--
Perhaps they'll listen now.

For they could not love you
But still, your love was true
And when no hope was left inside
On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do--
But I could've told you, Vincent:
This world was never meant
For one as beautiful as you.

Starry, Starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget
Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn, a bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.

Now I think I know
What you tried to say, to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free:
They would not listen; they're not listening still--
Perhaps they never will.

great song. I think it was aimed at Vincent Van Gogh.

Sir Mix-A-Lot is not a one hit wonder.
Everyone remembers this one:
Posse On Broadway

Faith No More had one of the most talented singers of my generation and another song that broke into the Top 40 (Falling to Pieces), but the still considered them a One-Hit Wonder (which is complete crap).

I would bet you 99 out of 100 people on the street couldn't tell you any song by Don McLean that wasn't "American Pie".

Sir Mix-A-Lot has a lot of great songs. They consider him a One-Hit Wonder because he has had a grand total of one song that hit the charts.

I agree that he is not, but public perception is that he came out of nowhere and then disappeared just as quickly (which I know is not true).

39. "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve (1998)
What? They had The Drugs Don't Work as well. Seems like they were scarping the barrel for a few more.

The best one hit wonders:
23. "Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba (1997)
63. "Jump Around" by House Of Pain (1992)

That list has so many great songs on it. I was watching some of this on VH1, and promptly dl'd a ton of that stuff.

Public perception is what they're basing this whole list on though. It's not for the fans (or close to it) who liked any of these particular artists or their work. You could put Metallica on a "those-who-sold-out list" (I hate that term)... and I, along with a few million others out there, would tell you otherwise.

I agree. I said that I don't think that Mix is, but I also stated that he is percieved as one. Perception is reality. :D

Also Lucky Man Which was on a couple of movies. I wouldn't call them one-hit.

new Radicals which had only one popular song - I bought the album and for the most part it was pretty damn good!

Everyone knows Posse on Broad Way.
You might hate it, but if you are aware of any Song from 1988, you know this one.
The Album it came off of, Swass, spent 61 WEEKS on the charts, peaked at number 9 and was a Platinum seller.
No way they are a One hit wonder.
