Hello, I'm looking into a 27" to replace my 23". I'm wondering if anyone runs at resolution higher than 1080p with a 27"? A friend of mine is telling me that anything greater than 1080 will be hard to read on a 27", but I'm not entirely sure that's true. Also, I'm seeing HUGE cost difference in 27"s that support greater than 1080p so not thinking it would be in my budget anyway....

This has discussion of the cheaper 27" 2560x1440 monitors, and links to other resources.
Typically the lower grade panels start at $400, while high end (e.g. Apple) go to more like $900.
If $400 is within budget you can get a higher res 27" screen.

A 27" 2560 monitor has 109PPI.
27" 1080p has 82PPI
24" 1080p monitor has 96PPI
21.5" 1080p has 102PPI

For reference of how hard things might be to read.
Also remember you can move the monitor closer, makes things bigger :p

Also depends on what you want it for. If you are on a limited budget, a higher res screen might not be a great idea as it means you need more computer power to push the resolution.
