Here's the email I received:

Parents,

Friday night at Pinckneyville Soccer Complex, a man was observed at the fields and was recognized as an individual who was previously ejected from the premises. A staff member called the police who arrived after the individual left the park. Upon running his vehicle information, he was found to be a known sexual offender.

Here are the details as we know them. Please be on the look out for this individual and don?t hesitate to report anything unusual that you see at the parks. If you think you see this individual, call the police immediately, but do not approach him.

Small Red Ford Ranger ? License #WL82G2
Medium build, bleached blond hair, about mid 30?s -40?s. He wears ear phones for either an Ipod or possibly a scanner
On Friday, he was wearing one of the new Norcross Soccer Academy t-shirts (with the new crest on the front and Norcross Soccer Academy on the back).

Please watch your children at the park at all times (including in the bathrooms) and make sure they know to always stay with a known adult or in a group.

We emailed back and asked for the guy's name so we could look him up in the sex offender registery so we would get a better idea of what he looks like and what he did to get on the sex offender list. We were told that the police weren't willing to give out that information.

WTH not!?! There are 6 different fields at the soccer complex with dozens upon dozens of kids, families, and friends. Why wouldn't you allow parents to find out exactly what this character looks like?

You know his license plate number and the make/model of his truck. Do a little PI work.

That was the other thing that ticked me off. You'll give us that info but you won't give us his name? You might as well give us his name at that point.

Probably because they don't want some parent going nuts and killing him preemptively. I agree though it's bizarre to give you personal information like his license plate if they're witholding the name.

Doesn't make sense to me why they do not give out name as I thought sex offended info was all public record. They should email everybody his name and picture b/c that guy deserves a beating if he ever comes back if he has a sex offender record for something related to children.

It'd take a hell of a man (or woman) to still be breathing after they've touched any of MY children 'in that way'.

Does your state have an online registry? Perhaps somewhere here can assist in your sleuthing work.

Yeah, there's a sex offender registery here. My wife was already on it and found two guys that resemble the description given.

Better than plopping down $40 or so on a license plate lookup.

Judging from the posts in this thread I can see why they don't give out the person's name. It would just lead to harassment and more violence.

And darn it all to heck if that information might also prevent a child from getting molested...

Yeah really. I guess it's better to make sure nothing bad happens to a known sexual predator than to look out for the well-being of children who might be kidnapped or molested... :disgust: I can understand trying to give someone a second chance at a normal life, but if the person is hanging around places where children are without a reason, then all bets are off.

So why don't we just execute them on the first offense, then? That also "might prevent a child from getting molested."

I'm personally against sexual offender registries for first-time offenders (at least) because a lot of people are classified on that list that shouldn't be (IMHO, not the law's).

For example, a 17 and 18 year old sleep together. It was consentual, and both parties were of age of consent. However, minor's parents press charges against other party, regardless of their child's opinion. Bingo, sexual offender. But why? They've done "nothing wrong" if it was consentual. There are numerous such situations like that, that I completely disagree with.

See, now you are just being silly.

If a known sexual offender is hanging around a soccer field loaded with kids when he has no business being there...don't you think a good preventative measure is to let the parents know what this guy looks like beyond a vague description of "Medium build, bleached blond hair, about mid 30?s -40?s." Doesn't even tell us his approximate height or even his ethnicity.
