And that is the great Sandy Bridge / Sandy Bridge E / Ivy Bridge decision I am faced with 🙁

I forgot to add that Sandy E features quad channel. Now that I am aware of the existence of fancy cache this feature has value to me.

I was so ready for IB, got a case, PSU and GPU all lined up. But if I can clock a Sandy 300 Mhz higher AND run cooler then that cancels out Ivy's IPC and wattage advantages in my eyes.

I have considered getting an I7 3820... Yes the overclocking sucks but the possibility of a drop-in upgrade to an 8-core in a couple years (when they're affordable) is appealing.
 
2700K, get that binned Sandy sweetness and shoot for the stars. 3930k/x if you can afford it and want that 6-core goodness
