I don't know if this is available at all the Fry's Electronics Stores or just in the Phoenix market. It is an advertised special in this morning's paper. This is a great professional style camera with a stablized 10X optical zoom. Steve's Digicam's conclusion reads:

"The Olympus E-100 RS is not going to be a "top seller" because it is a specialty camera that was made for a very small share of the digicam market. The $1595 price is close to double that of the C-2100UZ, but for those with a "need for speed" it's well worth the investment. The combination of a stabilized 10x optical zoom, 1.5-megapixel sized images and the capture rate of a machine gun put this camera in a class by itself and to sum it up simply -- it's pure fun to use ! "

Cheapest price from a retailer on price grabber is $616

Great Price. No Fry's in Florida. :(

Not to mention, that it's got both SmartMedia and CF support.:frown:

Very nice, but I'd hate to pay that much for a 1.5 MP camera :( I think the C-2100UZ would be a better deal. It can be found for around the same price and it's 2.1 MP +has most of the features.

Fritzo,

They are both nice cameras but Steve's digicams compares them this way:

"The E-100RS could be called a C-2100UZ on steroids -- it has a slightly smaller CCD but uses with the same excellent 10x optical zoom lens (38mm-380mm equivalent in 35mm) with a sophisticated optical image stabilization system. On the outside both of these cameras are very similar except the E-100RS sports an all-black body. iESP metering and focusing systems yield the best possible exposures plus the E-100RS now features AE Bracketing of both the exposure value and white balance. "

Both are great cameras at a great price when in the mid $400s.

With that price, you can almost buy a Minolta Dimage 5 camera, which has 3.34 MP, 7x minolta GT optical len and a lot of professional function.

The 10x OPTICAL zoom is THE killer feature in this camera. Most people take a picture of the mountain scenery and all you see are two little humps...birds in a tree are 2 little specs. I've owned a Casio qv8000sx w/8x optical zoom for about 2 years now and the Olympus is the only camera I would even consider moving up to. Unless you take close-ups and portraits exclusively this is the best choice for an all around camera.

my 2 cents

WHat makes the Dimage a better deal even further is the 28mm close end. In the rush to make the 10x idiot quote, camera makers forget that wide angle lenses are immeasurably more useful than that extra 1-2x zoom. Buyers UNITE :)
