Anybody know how long it takes blacktop to cool enough so that you can drive on it? They're "paving" my street as I type this.

They did that without warning you or telling you not to drive on it?

I say go for it. If anything happens to your tires, send the bill to the city.

No, they've been working on the streets for a while - I knew they were going to do it sometime in the next few days. Nobody has told me not to drive on it; I just assumed I couldn't. I didn't think it would be too long though, maybe just a couple of hours - they did it on another part of the road a few days ago and I drove on it coming home from class at about 1pm. Considering what NuclearNed said, I guess I'm really just stuck until they get all the trucks out of the way (I live in a circle - only one way out).

You should be able to drive on it, or they should leave "a way out". I mean, what would happen in an emergency? Would you be expected to park 2 streets over and walk to your car if you were hurt or someone's wife went into labor?

Blacktop is usually safe to drive on after about 2-4 hours, but like someone said, don't go fast because some of the crap is still loose, and you don't want that being slung up.

You'll hear a lot of pebbles in your wheel wells, but no big problem. Even if some stick inside, they'll fall off soon enough. It's no big deal unless they JUST got done steaming it.
