Great notebook conspiracy or what?

I have been shopping for months for a notebook that has 5 simple features:

i5-25xxM (Or any 4 thread cpu that will give a 13 second single thread super pi 😛)
A USB 3.0 port
128GB SSD
Win 7 Pro 64
2 DIMMs (dual channel 1333 at least)

For under $1000.

I cant find one. Seriously.

I can buy a cheapo slickdeal i5 USB3.0 notebook and a samsung 830 and install it myself for under $850 total, but that is not something I'm prepared to do for a large deployment.

What is going on here? Am I seriously the only one who has any common sense as to what to want from a notebook? Why would someone spend $500 on a cpu just to pair it with a craptasticly agonizingly slow 5400 rpm $28 notebook hard drive?

SSD is a techie feature

in the last few years almost everyone has gotten away from the original dell model of total customization to some features being on upper end models. kind of like acura/lexus compared to honda/toyota

or Honda will sell you a car but to get upgrades you have to buy feature packages like the LX or EX package. leather is only with the EX package

i5 and SSD rarely mix. its a techie wishlist. kind of like i couldn't find a laptop under $1000 with multiple wifi antennas or backlit keyboard

Wow they actually gave a better coupon code for once. I had been checking their site regularly and laughing at how all these different coupon codes always ended up with the same price at the end.

I went with the i5-2450M and the 4 year warranty and the 160GB intel SSD for $969. Not a bad deal I guess. But it is only single channel memory. Dual channel costs $80 more... ugh.

Wow that's a good deal. It's actually $737 with code 23LBB0BDXPH2FZ. AND it comes with a $100 gift card. It's only a dell gift card, but I guess it can be used to buy a case, sleeve, mouse, etc. It is through Dell Small Business though. I'm not sure if my company can use that. I've faced this question before but was too embarrassed to actually ask if we can make purchases through them. I know a person can buy through them if they provide a tax id, but I dont know about larger corporations....

edit: I did some tinkering and was able to configure a system not using Dell Small Business and got the price down to $815. Looks like we have a winner.

You're buying retail for a large deployment??

And you're paying for a seed unit?

You're doing it wrong.
