The drivers are v2.0 Build 2.00.20.0516 and are available for Windows XP, 2000, 98/ME and Linux. Currently there is no news on what has been fixed, however the previous drivers are Build 1.06.16.0051 so some major changes are expected!

PowerVR reference drivers

Just found out some of the games which have been fixed with this driver release:-

Batman: Vengeance
Casanova - The Duel of the Black Rose
Combat Flight Simulator 3
Command & Conquer: Generals
G.I. Combat
Highland Warriors
Impossible Creatures
Knight Rider
Messiah
NHL 2001
Odium
Pool of Radiance 2
Silent Hill 2
Sim City 4
Soul Reaver
Star Trek Dominion Wars
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer
ToCA Race Driver
and many more!

I'm still thinking about how cool the next version of the "Kyro"(will probably be a different name) will be.
If only the KyroII had a T&L engine, it would have been supported by many current games that require it.

PowerVR Series 5 will be pretty amazing IMO, if they get it right Series 5 should give Nvidia and ATI a run for their money especially if it's priced in the 9600/5600 price range. I think Series 5 will be released this year because PowerVR are really pushing for extra staff like 3D Driver Engineers, Simulator Development Engineers, Senior Software Engineer
& Hardware Design Engineers.

Series 5 will HAVE to be named differently to Kyro because STM own that name. If the Kyro 2 could easily use hardware t&l then IMO the Kyro 2 SE would of used hardware t&l instead of the rubbish enhanced software t&l which hardly worked.

I looked around and still found this issue messy...
who owns PowerVR now?
who makes the cards? they only do the chipset, right? or will they sell their own cards like ATI?

<<< who owns PowerVR now? >>>

PowerVR has never been bought or sold, it is part of Imagination Technologies which has the following divisions:-

PowerVR
Metagence
Ensigma
Pure Digital (previously called Videologic)

<<< they only do the chipset, right? or will they sell their own cards like ATI? >>>

PowerVR develops and licenses the PowerVR graphics and video technology so they only produce the chipset.

There is talk that Series 5 will be made by the various divisions of Imagination Technologies instead of using outside companies. IMO if they can pull it off then that would be great news because Series 5 sounds amazing! :)

No, they started out with NEC making the PowerVR1 series of chips.... the only solution at the time which competed with the Voodoo cards (oh this was all so long ago now).....

The main reason for choosing NEC is probably the same as the reasons behind ST's decision to make PowerVR based chips..... a company with large chip fabrication facilities which was what PowerVR really wanted considering their target markets were PC, Arcade and Console machines.

Downloading now. Can't believe they were finally released!!

From the current reactions, it seems like EnTnL doesn't offer any performance increase, just for compatibility.

Cheers

The Kyro 1 & 2 don't have hardware t&l so if a game requires hardware t&l then performance suffers or the game doesn't work correctly. With enhanced t&l enabled the Kyro can fool the game into thinking it has hardware t&l but really it's just using the optimised software t&l instead.

I'm mostly interested in finding out what changes have been made to the enhanced t&l since the kyro2 se was cancelled. With the Kyro2 SE it was found that enhanced t&l didn't really improve performance with a fast cpu but was great for software compatibility.

Let's just hope they don't make a big stupid mistake like the earlier Kyros (Lack of TnL)... more competition in the graphics market is great.

I had high hopes for Trident and Matrox, but the Trident XP4 turned out to be only of marginal use in ultra-low-cost solutions, and the Parhelia was and is still just a joke (Costs as much as a Radeon 9700 Pro). It's too bad, because competition lowers prices and speeds up innovation...
