Had it for 8 days, now it just displays no service or it won't register on the AT&T network. I already buffed the sim and tried it in another phone (works fine), have also restored the phone and re-activated to no avail.

Stopped working after 7pm so i can't go just go to the apple store right now.

It seems like this is not an isolated incident, many others have reported the same thing. Good thing i have another phone to use as a backup!

REportedly they will just swap it out in a retail apple store, i better not have to send it in for repair! If so I will return it and then dispute the 10% restocking fee with AMEX

That's terrible. My SIM card got fried and Apple was extremely good about swapping it out with a new phone. I got the feeling the employees got the corporate mandate to make the iPhone introduction 100% smooth, so they're pretty much happy to help you fix anything you want. Read my saga here: (gets good on page 2! haha)

They'll just swap it, don't get freaked out. Takes about 5 minutes at the store and 2 minutes at home and you're done.

You can even activate it at the store. My local Apple Store is a good 45 minutes from me, so they let me use an iMac to activate it. Just don't sync it to the computer after activation and it won't store your phone's information.

got it replaced, it was pretty painless since I demonstrated that the iphone got no service and then put the sim in my blackjack and it worked just fine.

Took a long time to do the exchange though, needed a manager override.

I'm happy, and it extended my return window an extra 8 days.

my iPhone is being restored right now

i really think that the antenna somehow got disconnected, becuase i would no longer hear interference over my speakers when it was seraching for service.

Nice...Apple is usually pretty good about handling customer concerns.

btw how good is your speakerphone? Mine is worthless :(

Heh, sometimes I use the speakerphone next to my ear in loud environments, instead of the regular earpiece.

That's interesting... One would think they would just stock some spare SIM cards rather than swap an entire phone...

Even more interesting is the fact that the iPhone SIM card has a 3G logo on it :D

all at&t sims have 3g logos on them for at least the past year.

its identical to the one that came with my last phone

They probably changed swap-out-policy since I went in since I had mine swapped out day 3 for the battery issue that was later determined to be a software glitch. I showed it to the Mac Genius at the desk, he looked at it for 3 minutes, and said, "I can swap this out for you", I said "ok" and he opened a brand new box and handed me the new one after putting my SIM in it.

New phone shows warranty from July 1 when I went in and had it swapped out. Receipt doesn't matter except for a return.
