Great, my dad is pissed at me.....

Well, I usually goto a local computer store to work and get experience and all that sort of stuff. They don't pay me which is a bummer (i'm only 15) but it would of been cool if they did. Lately it's been really slow and the most exciting thing to do is take the trash out and clean up. So the past few weeks, i've been eiether not going by pretending to be tired and making excuses. So today I didn't want to go and we got out of the driveway my dad got real pissed and took my back home and told me to go do whatever I want. My parent's think it's a good opprotunity to work here and gain experience. Too bad the owner has to depend on me for new computer information and anything regarding AMD and even new stuff. So my dad told me I better call em up and tell them I don't want to go anymore! They think I learn but this shop is so damn biased towards Intel, it's not even funny. We don't build any AMD machines unless reqeusted. Hmm, I mentioned AMD are going to start having DDR based systems, his reaction, whats DDR? :disgust: Do you guys think it is right for me to quit? After all, I don't think i'm learning a single THING at this point.

Well, my dad said since I only go on Saturdays, it doesn't matter :|.

Anyways, i've made my mind up and i'm quiting. For christs sake, they don't even have a damn website.

If you are not very happy there and there are better opportunities out there, then show some wisdom and maturity (impress your dad) by getting another job somewhere else. Obviously getting a job at a 'smarter' computer shop would be great. Dress nice and sell yourself. Let them know that you have the technical knowledge and enthusiastic customer service attitude to offer to help their store excell.

The other day I stopped at a local computer shop that I had not been to in almost half a year. I went with a friend from work looking for a good computer case to build a new computer with (this store had competitive prices on Antec cases, my favorite). I could not believe how the atmosphere in that store had changed. It used to be a good store, but now it is depressing, the sales guy lacks enthusiasm and has no desire to help, and even suggested we go to another computer store rather than offer ordering a case they normally stocked (they were out of XS830s, SX1030s, and 300W KS-188s). There was more there that disturbed me but the fact is I will no longer consider that store.

My point is closed-mindedness and poor attitude only stifles business and is not worth being around. Make some sound judgements and move on if necessary.

Good luck Urbantechie.

Thanks MissingLinc. I'm probably going to have to wait till i'm 16 then get a job. Are ISPs good places to work? I bet Viper would know....

right. If you're a store and you don't have a web site you suck. Even if you have your web site if you don't have your own domain you still suck.

Urban,
I would stay at the store and try not to piss off the owner.
You should always try to leave any job with a good note.
Since you are only 15 He will be your only reference for future work.
If you do not want too work there let him know that don't just blow him off.
He also let you work when no one else would.

damm young wipper snappers 😀
Your only 15 think about having FUN while you can
its a b*tch getting old and respect your parents.

Hmmm, well maybe I am a dumbass or just old-fashioned, but it seems to me you COULD be learning alot of things there. You COULD be learning the satisfaction of a job well done, regardless of what the job is. You COULD be learning that sticking with something no matter how "gay" it is is a sign of maturity. You COULD be learning valuable customer service skills that will be an invaluable asset later in life. You COULD be learning that going to a job no matter how much you dislike it, is a fact of life, and learn to deal with it. You COULD be learning that teaching others things (your boss about AMD) is a wonderful feeling once you have proved your arguments to be worthy. You COULD be learning "people skills" something that is never taught enough. You COULD be gaining the respect of your parents by doing something you dont like, because MAYBE they know something you dont, like that what you are learning at this shop is more valuable than any monetary compensation you could ever get.

Get on their good side, make em love you, then tell em you are going to have to leave because you need to get a higher paying job...they will either A. Lick your toes and beg and make it worth your while , or B)Say "Hey man, nice working with you!" and you leave with a good record. Either way you win.

I'm with Lord Maul ... heck if they dont have a website ... convince the owner that he needs one ... help him set it up .. then use it in your portfolio to impress future jobs ... stop looking at the negatives and start working on improving it 🙂 ... good luck ...

I would have to really love it or be getting some other benefit if it were me working gratis (for free). If they find you to be of some value, then you should be getting some compensation, IMO.
