Blazing Saddles - Let's face it. Only Mel Brooks would have the guts to make that film.
Pretty much any Monty Python movie.
Pretty much any Cheech and Chong movie.

Really? I think the boundaries are wider than ever today. The only things I can think of that wouldn't be put in a film today (and were in the past) are scenes of actual (as in it-really-happened/not-CG) animal torture. Documentaries being the exception, of course.

EDIT: Rethinking the OP's phrasing, I guess he's referring to style and not "edginess."

Monty Python faced much opposition and many protests back then, too, so I think we can realistically hope that some others don't hesitate to film provocating movies today.

With some of the stuff going to Sundance, I think all of the above could be made. The only one I can think of, and agree with not making, would be Birth of a Nation.
