Great Movie but Relatively Unknown

Bought "Matchstick Men" DVD used from Blockbuster Video last week. Just finished watching it last night. It was produced by Ridley Scott (Gladiator & Blade Runner). It is an excellent movie, but I am not sure why it never got much recognition. Nicolas Cage stars. Cage should have gotten an Oscar.

If you have not seen it, rent a copy the next time you have a chance.

It is completely different than Gladiator or Blade Runner, but great in it's own right.

I liked that movie as well. It was much better than I thought it would be. A definite 'must see' IMO.

its pretty well known i think.
ummm...i think id rather read the book. it would probably be more believable.
also, i really dont like "punchline" movies.
sort of ruins a re-watching for me. (well, assuming that the punchline is the only thing the movie has going for it)

While a good movie, it's no where near "great". Certainly not Blade Runner great at least, or even remotely Oscar quality.

For one thing, the movie spoils itself badly about halfway through. Completely ruined it for me.

yeah it's a good movie... but the ending wasn't particularly surprising, you can guess it pretty much from the very beginning...

I think Cage's daughter was pretty cute though ;)

i think the trailer was what ruined it for most people. i watched the trailer several times back then, and didn't even occur to me that i would want to watch the movie based on what i saw on the trailer.

now that you mention it, i might want to rent it someday.

Pretty good movie, the ending really pissed me off, the daughter is hot (and I'm really glad she's like 23 and not 15)

It was surprisingly good, as much as Catch Me If You Can was.

I agree, it was a very enjoyable a movie, but not too heavy on the replay value, other than watching Cage's performance of a neurotic nut. Alison Lohman is a cutie, but I still can't believe that she's what, 23 or 24!? She definitely wasn't 14 (as she was playing in the movie), but I would've believe 17 or 18!

I like "Catch me if you can" more but "Matchstick men" was also quite good and entertaining.

i don't think I can stomach another Nicholas cage movie after watching 8mm...can't even watch the Rock or Face/Off anymore

that scene where he is asking for permission to kill that dude has to be the worst acting job EVER!!!

I love matchstick men. I bought the dvd the day it came out, and I watch it at least once a month :)

Guess it just hit a chord with me.

I found it thoroughly enjoyable, the only problem I find with movies like that is they really too much on chance. He has to do this, then that...to get this expected outcome. Had one thing gone worng, and the whole plan would have been blown to hell. Another good one in this genre is "The Usual Suspects" that is a "must see" in my opinion.

ok, just need to chime in really quick

if RIDLEY SCOTT Directed the movie and NICOLAS CAGE is starring in it, then the movie is not "relativley unknown". wtf? do you think this is some kind of arthouse, indie movie or something? just because there were only 5 copies of it at blockbuster?

sigh..
