Great lesser known Movies??

I love watching movies but lately everything I see seems to either be incredibly gay (i.e. Gangs of New York) or really really poorly acted.. I like all genres of movies except stupid horror flicks like Halloween and Friday the 13th's.. A few days ago Swag1138 posted a thread about Boondock Saints so I tried it out and truly loved it. Has to be one of the top films I've seen in the past 5 years.. So,

What are some lesser known but excellent movie titles? Here is my small list:

Boondock Saints (thanks Swag1138)
Tigerland (Early Colin Farrell movie)
Animal Factory (Another excellent Willem Dafoe film)
Memento (Kind of well known now)
Cube
Cube 2:Hypersphere (Both Cube movies are terribly acted but the movies are excellent)
Ghost Dog
When Trumpets Fade (Great HBO made WWII Movie)
Requiem For a Dream (Well known here on Anand but no where else it seems)

Please try not to repost the same movies over and over so we don't have another 500 post thread.

Boondock Saints, Donnie Darko is hardly great... they were at best above average films that were incredibly hyped up by the AT community/geek friends of mine.

Grosse Point Blank
Ninja Scroll - anime fans excepting of course

Uhhhhh ... Star Wars ... and maybe Pulp Fiction ... how about ET?

My personal fave - Titanic. That's one lesser known movie for sure.

That was a good one, I like most of Cusacks movies.

Saw Green Dragon the other day, surprised I really liked a movie in which Patrick Swayze was playing one of the leads. It was about the Vietnamese refugee camps set up in the US during the Vietnam war.

Mall Rats

Goonies

Firestarter(original)

Project X

War Games

Big Trouble in Little China

how about:
Freeway (Reese Witherspoon, Keifer Sutherland director:Mathew Bright)
Paradise Lost (director Joe Berlinger - documentary about the west memphis 3)
Dancing Outlaw (director Jacob Young, Jesco White Documentary)
and for horror, how about Black Christmas (director: Bob Clark)

It's 'lock, stock and two smoking barrels' 😉
And it's frickin' funny as hell 😀

i've actually seen most of those- qute a fine selection. 'Being John Malkovich' was cool for about an hour, then the lack of plot development drove me out of the room.

I hate to admit it, but one of my favorite movies (and one that it seems not too many ppl have seen) is The Muppet's Treasure Island. I just about pissed myself I was laughing so hard through that one.

Dark City's a great one, even though one of my friend's swore it was a 'rip off' of the Matrix.

Off the top of my head I'd add:
-Shine
-Hopscotch
-Hell in the Pacific (similar theme to Castaway, but better IMO)
