Do you really believe in ghosts?

ps: I really hope your being paid well for NOC.

Nah, not really. But if you saw my prevous thread (too lazy to search for it), some odd things happened. I get paid decently for working in the NOC.

Lucky bastard 😛

PS: how many servers do you watch over?

How many? If you include test + dev + prod? About 600.

holy sh!t that's a lot!

I hope you have some good monitoring software!

(I hope most of them are unix based, would hate to reboot 600 windows based servers on a periodic basis)

We use several monitoring tools to keep an eye on everything. We have a mix of systems but its pretty evenly devided between Win2K server ad Solaris platforms. BTW, we dont really have issues with windows rebooting itself. NT 4.0 went away a long time ago. You might be surprised to hear some of the issues with have with both the unix and windws systems.

You guys use solaris? (eeeeeeek). We use mostly FreeBSD and Linux (with a mix environment of Windows 2000, Windows 2003).

I didn't mean windows rebooted itself...but on a periodic basis (I'd say every 2-3 weeks) the windows apps which is run on the windows based server crashes. So we just end up rebooting the box to make sure there is no memory loss)

ps: we also have issues with unix, but a simple case of "ps -aux | grep <name of process>", nuking the process and restarting it normally makes it all happy again.

Heh, yea I was just in one of our Unix boxes and had to kill some nasty processes. Anyways, I'll probably be leaving this job soon. I had a really good job interview last week. I should find out sometime this week if I got the job, which is really exciting! No more late nights! 😀

best of luck to you!

You had an interview during the Christmas season???

that's almost unhead of...

Oh great.
Thanks a friggin lot. Now, since I had the light on, I'll never know if there was a ghost behind me or not going
"hmmmm.... never thought of that one."

just remember one thing. if you have to do a job which requires several repeated identical commands on a repeated basis, write a damn bash script to cut down on the time! 😉

yea I know. I feel pretty fortunate! I dont want to count my chickens, but I talked to the VP of tech on the phone for about 30 mins before my official 3 interviews and it went extremely well with him. The 3 primary interviews went really really well too. So, we'll see. Once they decide who they want, and if its me, we'll see if they can meet my "salary requirements". 😀

I thought the same thing. But, as a 2nd interview, the company arranged for a conference line between Christmas and New Years. Later that afternoon, I received an offer.

I'm now a believer that job interviews can happen at any point of the year.
