Eleven years ago I bought a Black and Decker cordless, pivoting screwdriver. It was part of their Versa-Pak line that all used the same battery so if you bought more than one of the tools you could interchange the battery.
This cordless screwdriver is perfect for repairing computers. I used it every day in my shop for 11 years. Finally, a few weeks ago I dropped it for the hundreth time but this time it broke.
B and D still makes the Versa-Pak line but it is very difficult to find, it is only availble online from 3 retailers.
So I order it, for 29.99. When it comes it is defective. The motor acts like a car whose starter is going. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

So I called Black and Decker. After no time on hold the service rep. asks what is the problem, asks for my name and address, and tells me I will have a new one in 7-10 days. The rep spoke perfect English. The entire call took less than 5 minutes. Three business days later the new one, complete in its bubble wrap with charger, battery and bits shows up at my house. They don't want the old one back so I have an additional new battery and charger and bits.
Freakin' awesome customer service.

That's pretty good, although I'm not a fan of BD tools. That's just because I have different needs than the average home handyman.

Yea I am not sure how good the customer service is for my tools... they don't break. ;)
Maybe that why B+D has such good CS

There doesn't seem anything special about this; their tool sucked, you told them, they sent a new one.

Anyway, I have two B&D tools, one a $30 corded drill that I've used on and off for 6 years including some serious drilling recently (it's only 4.5Amps but never gives me any problems at all) and a $12 battery powered screwdriver which is in my top two favorite tools (the other being a dremel).

I've personally had good customer service with Amazon and Home Depot, HD in particular.

I'll say this about dremel as well, mine was burning out the contacts and wouldn't work half the time unless i tapped it on the side, then eventually it would stop working again. well since dremel headquarters is based out of Racine, Wi...and i was home on block leave, i decided to get it repaired. walked in to the customer service area, told them what was wrong, they changed it.....and there we go, worked fine. glad to know that B&D is still good on the customer service area though.

Craftsman supposedly warrantees their tools for life. You bust the drive off a socket wrench, just go back to Sears, give them the busted one and they give oyu a brand new one.

I don't think that is for power tools, just hand tools.

Thats awesome! Specially the: "..the rep spoke perfect english." I freaking hate calling any companys' customer service or tech support and all you get is someone with a heavy accent that you cant freaking understand.

This is very special, IMO. Nowadays this type of service seems very difficult to find.

Sears has a great warranty on hand tools - problem is in recent years the replacement you get is from China and quality is poor.
