William Bernstein, who I think is one of the best at providing sound advice for investors, made a booklet he authored available for free download. Called "If You Can," it lists 5 hurdles that keep many people from enjoying investing success in the long term. It's written for millenials but the concepts apply across the board. If you're a "I can pick winning stocks" type, it's not for you.

It's short and high-level but lists resources for more in-depth information.

Mobi format: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29031758/if_you_can_v1.mobi
Kindle format: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29031758/If You Can_K6IRK6EFXDZNG2FNC52QBW5WSIGF6YQH.azw3 (but it's not free if you go to the Kindle store).

I gave it a quick skim. Seems like a good guide to at least start learning. One of the biggest problems I've had when trying to learn what to do with my money is "where do I begin?"

I'll definitely give this a slow, thoughtful read later. Saved.

Thanks!!

Seems rather shillish for Vanguard. I imagine most millennials are stuck with tons of college debt so they have no money to invest in anyway.

And Bond funds are not riskless. Hell, the market is so f'ed up now that there's no guarantee that they won't implode as well when the bubble finally bursts.

Think long term, and let the power of compound interest work for you.

I started with $40 per paycheck.

plenty of millenials have little or no college debt. not every one of us paid out the wazoo for college. and many have STEM or medical degrees.

And Bond funds are not riskless. H***, the market is so f'ed up now that there's no guarantee that they won't implode as well when the bubble finally bursts.

so what do you advise, kemo sabe?

It basically doesn't matter really until the markets get un-f'ed and there's no way to know how long that will take or even if it will ever happen.

what are you doing in the meantime?

and if it never happens, then it seems that would indicate there wasn't a problem in the first place.
