Great idea (maybe) for HBO

I'm going to let my true nerd colors show here... :)

I always thought a great series for HBO would be an unrated Dungeons and Dragons (or just swords and sorcery themed) show. I hated the way that Hercules and Xena was campy and just relatively stupid. I'd really like to see some Conan style action with orcs getting their heads lopped off, nudity, and some gratuitous violence... And I'd REALLY like to see a movie take the D&D spells and give them life. Fireballs, cones of cold, and mages summoning Balors to do their duty.. They've got a HUGE depository of material to work with... Someone just needs to DO it...

I was thinking about this years ago seeing what a great job Blizzard would do with cut scenes in it's Diablo series. Then came the LotR movies, done EXACTLY the way they should be. I want MORE!

If I was given a budget, here is what I though might work into an interesting series:

Start with the beginnings of a small town with a "fighter". You see his humble beginnings, and he starts coming into his own, and it follows him for a few weeks into the series, getting stronger, tougher fights, gaining "levels". We leave him for a bit to follow a new person who they will come to meet .

Then goes to a "thief" class person, and follows the same formula.

Goes on with a cleric and a mage...

The season finale has them all meet up to fight a common enemy, and if the series was successful enough, you could have that climatic battle be a movie release, or just a long mini-series...

Sorry, I've been playing a lot of Neverwinter Nights 2 lately... :)

No... I'm still recovering from the crapfest that was DnD1.

Is it worth a peek?

It exceeds the original in pretty much every way (not that it took much). They're not related in any way.

Well, get the Blizzard guys to put a half hour show on HBO every week. I'll watch. :)

But c'mon. Wouldn't it be great to see axes slashing and real D&D spells come to life on the screen?
