Great, Free Antivirus

This is not one of those "plz tell me about free AV's plz" threads.

It's just a semi-review for Bitdefender free edition...

Today I downloaded Bitdefender (free). I also ran it against The Virus Test and it caught everything! This just proves you dont need to pay for a strong (not just "strong for a free program", like AVG is) antivirus. Bitdefender free uses the same scanner as the nonfree products the company sells. My only problem with it is that it doesnt have "autoprotect", meaning you have to manual scan everything. But for pure scanning, its excellent.

Why did I bother to write this? To show that AVG and Avast! are great choices as a free AV, but Bitdefender Free version is better at purely catching viruses.

I think its worth trying out, even if you are using AVG or Avast.

I personally hate autoprotect also but I like to have my mail scanned coming and going so Bitdefender is a no for me.

I keep having problems with Bit Defender "encountering a problem & must shut down...blah, blah, blah...send a report to Micro$oft, blah, blah, blah".
Anyone else having problems like with w/Bit Defender & XP?
