"great" earthquake in Indonesia - magnitude 8.9!

i was reading the indian news papers and i saw the headline "tidal waves kill 500 in madras".. i was like that can only happen on an earth quake.. then i read teh next headline 8.9 in indoensia..

Its unusual to have tidal waves in india, but the location of the earthquake definately hit 5 countries.. i wonder where else the tidal wave struck..

we are going to see a few more earthquakes world wide after this one, a few aroudn teh world.. not sure where next. I would say LA area will have one soon 🙁

I hate earthquakes.
 
Stupid CNN never check their facts. The 1960 Chile and 1964 Alaskan quake both exceeded 9.0 making them stronger than the 1952 quake in Russia and less than 50 years ago. BAD BAD CNN.

Well Alaska is a State and Alaska has had a 9.2 1964 and a 9.0 in 1946.

I see CNN has corrected their article, it was filled with many mistakes before.

I bet the earthquake happened due to a a collison of Eurasian and Australian plates.
Also the eartquake might relate to Indonesia's relative close position to the Ring of Fire of Japan.
