great Defragger for Win9x

Just came across a review on the net regarding a defragger for Win9x that is super fast and not very expensive. It's called "VOPT" from Golden Bow Systems (no I don't work for them).

It costs like $40 I think and has a 30day trial from their website. http://www.vopt.com/

Considering the other defraggers I've tried on my 10GB drive with Win9x, I hope this speeds things up!

I like using Diskeeper or Speedisk. Usually on Customers machines, we install diskeeper since its easier interface. BUt any of those will do. Windows Defragger will not do the job!

I have been using Vopt both on Win 95 and Win 98 O.S. for about 2 years. I think it's about the best shareware programs I've found. It's much faster than than the windows defragger. Yep it was good enough that I paid for and registered same. Ron ( Radarman )

IMHO, I think Norton Utilities is still the king of the drive utilities. The man practically invented the ability to undelete and unformat drives over 20 years ago (give or take a year). I started used NU back with version 1.0 for DOS and it kicked ass then and it still kicks ass now. Only problem is that since Norton was taken over by Symantec, their software has become Bloatware.

So, in that respect, the best version of NU I used (and continue to use) is version 3.0 for Windows 9x. Speedisk is still the king of defraggers and can't be touched. 4x faster than anything else I've tried (over 20 different defraggers).

And, if you live near some kind of retail computer store like Best Buy or CompUSA, you can find NU v3.0 for Win9x for about $10 on the cheap CD section.

Can't beat all the stuff that NU can do for you for $10. A full suite of applications for the care and maintenance of your PC's hard drive and data for mere pittance.

Very highly recommended.

And yes, I know that NU 2000 is out there, but look at it this way. I have very simplistic needs. I need a fast and efficient defragger (Norton Speedisk). I also need something to check the hard drive and correct problems with the file system (Norton Disk Doctor). And all the other stuff in the package is pure icing on the cake, folks.

Just my two cents...

Personally, I don't think a disk defragging program should be 10MB or more on the drive. But again, that is IMHO. 🙂

Another vote for Norton Utilities for Win9x defragging

You can even put a 'static' pagefile on the top of your partition with Norton Utilities ...

I agree that Speeddisk is a good defragger, but have any of you guys tried Vopt? Try it out first.. I was in the same boat as you guys before I downloaded the free trial.
