I've used an Inktec refill kit (which is what 4inkjets.com carries) for the Canon BC-02 cartridge. It produced a lighter, less dense black but otherwise printed OK - didn't clog the printhead or have any other problems. I'm on my 9th refill with the same cartridge. Got the kit & refills from inksell.com.

Compujet.com sells their own refill kits and has much better prices on bulk ink for refills - about $7-$10 for 250mml (approx. 12 & a half refills per cartridge). Haven't tried them before - expecting my first shipment from them today.

Maybe things have changed in the past 2-3 years, but the refill ink that I bought for refilling HP 51629A cartridges (for my DeskJet 682C) was definitely not as good as the factory fill. The print with the refill ink wasn't as dense, and it tended to bleed a bit more. I also couldn't print in EconoFast mode with the refill ink; my guess was that it wasn't as viscous and tended to slosh around a bit more in the cartridge, so the printhead would be starved for ink while it was zipping back and forth at the high speed used in EconoFast mode.

I haven't gotten around to trying to refill the cartridges on the Lexmark inkjets I have now (an Optra Color 40 at home and a Z22 at work), and given my experience refilling HP cartridges, I'm a bit leery about going to the bother again. I saw that the price for the 12A1970 refill kit isn't all that bad, but how well does it work? (Their refilled 12A1970s aren't that hot, given that you can find two-packs of new cartridges at Costco or Sam's Club for ~$45.)
