It appears that we've weathered the OGR storm and things have settled into a normal pattern again.

Just about everybody who's doing OGR now is doing it on PURPOSE. We may be losing about 300K or 400K RC5 blocks/day to OGR, but /. has lost about 200K BPD (that's blocks per day to the RC5 layman ;) ). Mycroft is still operating, but all his effort is in OGR, at the moment at least.

As of the 19th's stats run, the PhF appears to be fully back on line, doing entirely RC5 work.

All things considered, we're still doing very well and WILL be overtaking /. soon. The advent of OGR has eroded our lead enough that it looks like my guess and a few of the earlier, more optimistic guesses will not be the winner--help us Borg Two! :)

However, it still looks like we'll pass /. sometime within the range of guesses established in the original thread, with the latest being Russ's January 1st, 2001 guess. As stated in the rules, if we pass /. sometime after that last guess, then the winner will be chosen randomly. Barring any further disasters, I don't think that's likely, and we will be able to say good-bye to Slashdot before we say goodbye to the year 2000.

Crack 'em, boys!

So, how many blocks can I expect to receive when we pass slashdot on December 16 2000 ? :)
