Degenerate implies they're beneath and thus others are above. It creates an us vs them mentality. Puppet is just... sad, a wooden, autonomous unthinking, unfeeling, willing participant in whomever pulls the strings.

Pretty good illustration of why liberals lose despite superiority in every enlightenment metric. I'm sure import_taj will see the strings after the 1000th time someone points them out.

No, they won't, but they always gang up if it looks like 'liberal elitists' are cornering them.

OT but one does not need to pirate movies if the intent is to drive less or "reduce ones carbon footprint". There are any number of legal means to view movies in your own home. Theft is not a virtue.

And copyright infringement, while still illegal, is not theft.

In the vernacular using wikipedia (ugh) as a source, - "Nevertheless, copyright holders, industry representatives, and legislators have long characterized copyright infringement as piracy or theft – language which some U.S. courts now regard as pejorative or otherwise contentious."

There you go.

Good for them. They're wrong.

Anyway, didn't mean to sidetrack the thread with my pedantry.

And now there are warning signs that Florida/Hawaii reefs too are going the way of the dodo within the next few decades
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/may/30/us-coral-reefs-global-warming-climate-change

But yeah, lets pull out of the Paris Climate Accord. The current political climate, the whole administration reminds, and the general populace reminds me of a drug addict that has to hit the rock bottom before deciding to pull his life back on track, except sometimes the hole they dig proves too deep to get out of, part of me wonders if we will ever get out of that hole or just slowly rot and die at the bottom.

It's a good thing these reefs are isolated ecosystems and no global impact will be felt when they die off.

I've felt this too, my concern is that 'rock bottom' will be far enough below the 'recoverable' line that we won't see a true future for humanity. It is actually very possible for us to fuck up the planet enough that we cannot reasonably survive (or at least prosper), and at some point we're gonna have to reap what we've sowed.

How about move away from the consumption (or gluttony) driven growth model?

Why do people need two phones, why not buy a dual sim device?

Why do you need two PC's or tablets, cars, half a dozen watches et al?

Do you really need to go out for dinners every weekend, or every month,

Still need to see that movie in IMAX?

How about not throwing away tons of food every year, or ugly vegetables & fruits?

Why do we need to order clothes from Amazon, especially when they don't always fit & then return them or order another pair to try them out?

What happens to the environment, a pair of shoes taking a round trip across the US for free, must be nice for oil companies & them shoes!

While agree with you in general some of your suggestions are off imo. Worse waste is things like remodeling your kitchen every 5 years. My kitchen is a 70s special, its clean functional and is perfect for me thats all that matters. I don't need granite or stainless steel.

"They that sow the wind, shall reap the whirlwind"

I have a feeling we'd have effed up the earth & every other species far beyond reparation, in that sense the rest of the planet is already reaping what we've sown & will continue to do so till the time we move to Mars.

Yeah but this isn't an either or situation, there are some (probably lots of) things that I do are wasteful, some that you do are quite avoidable as well. What we must figure is out is how to avoid that spur of the moment impulsive but avoidable purchase, or spending things on luxurious items that have an extremely high environmental cost, like the yearly iPhone upgrade?

Compromising on things that aren't essential to life, is a preferable tenet of life, it not only helps us but directly helps the earth & other species as well. Unfortunately the human society is geared towards "consumption as a growth engine" philosophy, that's hardly sustainable & results in bloated profit driven corporations that are increasingly driving national & international agendas, much to the detriment of a large number of people who aren't directly involved with them.
