GRE Question

Just curious, how many times did you take it, and how did you score each time?

Trying to decide whether to study like mad, and take it. Or just take it once, see how I do, then study if I ha ve to.

Read some books (Kaplan/Princeton) to get some strategy. Study what you can (math's the simplest to study...common root words for english).

I took it once and was happy with my scores. The writing section was simple and the math was pretty simple; English was dumb per usual but overall it wasn't that bad of a test.

Study like mad for the first exam. try not to take it more than once. I studied a lot especially for the verbal, which is the section that really sets you apart. I got in the 90's in math and verbal and 80's for analytical.

I took it once. I got near an 800 for the Quantitative - it's EXTREMELY easy. Verbal is another story! That was one difficult section. Fortunately I'm an engineer so it didn't matter as much. The writing section is OK and I believe I received a 4.5/6.0 on it.

From my own experience, the best way to study was just to take practice exams. I needed to get the timing of the exam done right.

The GRE website has 2 practice tests that are exactly like the real ones. Take those and see how you do.

Vocabulary is the killer. They like to mess around with word forms and alternate definitions. Math is easy (for engineers anyway) but because it's so easy, you tend to rush though the questions and make careless mistakes. The essay sections are fairly straightforward. You could get screwed if your two issue topics are incredibly difficult but I doubt that happens often.

Anyway, I got a 790 math, 700 verbal. Haven't received my essay scores yet.

i took it twice... 15 something the first time, 1710 the second time...

didn't do too well on verbal, but for quantatative i got 700, analytical 710... that was back when analytical was still around...

i just studied my ass off the week of the test the second time around...

another quick question:

if i take it more than once, will a school ding me? or should i just be selective and send only the scores i want to send (like the sat)

didn't study much...just took some of those tests you can download off the gre website.
the reason i took it was just to take it before they switched formats (i.e. replacing analytical with writing).
score was quantitative/analytical/verbal -> 760/710/680

i wish i had studied more though...since my analytical score is stuck on my record and i cant' take it again.

Took it once, chose to never take it again

(old version)
Math/Analytical/Verbal: 800/800/520 (I'm an engineer... sue me)

i took it once & don't remember my exact scores, but they were high
enough to get me into University of California grad school.

the questions weren't too bad, but the (self-induced) stress was awful.
