Gray or Grey?

Which one is the correct spelling for the color? Been banging my head and can't remember.

When I type grey into word it tells me that its not spelled correctly. Wierd

Originally they were two separate words.

Gray denotes colour, while Grey is the surname.

Today both are taken to mean the colour.

Everyone here has their own opinion, it seems, but I dont think it makes any difference. In other words, if you're typing a paper, use whichever, I doubt you'll get marked for it.
