In keeping with VIAN's newly found tradition of reviewing old games, I submit to you my review of GRAW 2, which is really going to be more of a rant.
First of all, the graphics are great, and some of the weapons are interesting, but at no point in this game did I even remotely feel like an "Advanced Warfighter." This can mostly be attributed to poorly programmed enemy AI, unresponsive controls, and the worst cover system I've used to date.
So what do I hate so much about the enemy AI? Well, it seems like they always know exactly where you are, before you've even done anything. It can be completely dark, and you are 200 yards away lining them up for a sniper shot with NV goggles on, and they will see you before you can get the drop on them, and start shooting at you. So any kind of stealth approach seems impossible. It's even worse when you spend time scouting ahead with the UAV and they still can see immediately, no matter where you approach from.
The controls in GRAW 2 are some of the worst I've ever used in a shooter. For some reason I sometimes have to press the fire button up to 3 times just for it to actually fire. I don't know if this is a bug or a feature but I just don't get it. I've been killed several times because I peeked out of cover and the shoot button didn't work.
Speaking of cover, every time I used cover I wanted to go back and play R6V or Gears of War, so I could use a cover system that didn't make me want to pull my hair out. Getting in and out of cover seems like more hassel than it needs to be. Also there seems to be a glitch where in a lot of cover situations your screen starts to jitter... the constant bouncing up and down while trying to aim is a pain in the rear. And why isn't it possible to throw a grenade from behind cover without totally exposing yourself? Advanced Warfighting this is not.
I thought GRAW 2 has a lot of potential, and if they could fix these issues for GRAW 3, and make the game a little longer and the story actually interesting, with some non-corny dialogue, it could be great.
