This has to be epicly stupid. To investigate Swetnick, they have to investigate Kavanuagh's high school years, speak to Mark Judge and Judge's ex who claimed something similar. He just opened up Pandora's box.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) announced Thursday that he is referring Julie Swetnick and her lawyer Michael Avenatti to the Justice Department for a potential criminal investigation into whether they made false statements to Congress about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

I feel like this is exactly what Avenatti wants

He has it whether he wants it or not. He'd better have some damned good grounds for the accusations because the dissapeared Jeff Sessions will have him on the top of the "incriminate" list.

Remember, Avenatti initially called for the FBI to investigate his clients claims as well. He doesn't seem to be a stupid lawyer, so would be dumb to do so, if he was provably lying.

When do they refer Kavanaugh the Justice Department for a potential criminal investigation into whether he made false statements to Congress about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh?

We'll find out but assuming the DOJ decides to go after him Avenatti will learn that he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Imagine Mueller vs. Avenatti. I wouldn't give the latter much of a chance.

But.

If the DOJ is going to make a case they face the hurdle of proving not that Avenatti was untruthful but willingly deceptive. We'll see.

I figure Grassley was on the phone with Sessions immediately after- "I'm sure you won't take this seriously, old friend. It's an election year & we both know what that means."

Isn't that pretty difficult to nail an attorney on? Basically, the only option here is scaring Swetnick enough into cutting a deal and incriminating Avenatti. Let's be honest about who the real target is here... Swetnick isn't worth the effort.

Otherwise, they have to prove that Swetnick lied AND Avenatti knew she was lying.

That's true, but never underestimate the ability of someone like Grassley to go for a broad investigation that the Ridiculous Reps would be really yelling about if Mueller had as low a standard as they.

I don't trust any of these people.

Maybe Swetnick was the one liar in the barrel and the reason they targeted her it is because Kavanaugh is the one who knows who he tried to rape and who he didn’t.

Hard to get Avenitti unless like Cohen he was doing something illegal. And all this changes id the Dems get the House and their own subpoena power.

Seems like Grassley's ulcers have erupted again and it's got him in a very spiteful arrogant kind of mood so he's looking to take it out on all of those pipsqueaks that caused his pain and violated his right to be indignant and haughty without penalty for being that way.

These jerkoffs keep forgetting that they serve the voters who put them there and there's no guarantee that they'll be back after the next electi....wait, I forgot how many of these Repub assholes gerrymandered themselves to lifetime terms in office. Oh well, I guess Grassley gets to keep on being an angry stubborn old man who thinks he's got the whole world by the sweaty hairy nutsack.

They'll lean on Swetnick hard and see if she'll implicate Avenatti. I've heard hearsay that she's not particularly bright, it might work.

Maybe if Grassley was actually a lawyer that knew something about the law, he would realize what he has done. He just opened up Pandora’s box as it relates to Justice Kavanaugh’s conduct. It is Christmas in October!
