Graphics Driver error when I try and run games

Hi all,

I've recently put together a new PC. When I try and run anything high end graphical the screen goes white, then returns with the game crashed and I get the error:

"Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

I'm running an HD 5870. Is there anything I can do? Is my GPU borked and I need to buy a new one?
