Graphics corruption on EVGA 7800GT

I recently purchased a 7800GT directly from EVGA and just got my card yesterday. However, whenever I try to run a game, I noticed that the graphics are corrupted on almost all of my direct 3d games. You would see 'spikey' textures popping in and out of the screen when there is movement. The weird thing is that I tried running Doom 3 and that game ran fine without any problems. Could this be a driver issue or a hardware related issue? It doesn't seem that the card is over heating and my system is running pretty cool at around 50C/40C for the CPU/Mobo respectively while running games. Videocard is at about 55C. Thanks in advance.

Specs:

Asus A8N SLI Deluxe Mobo
2x512MB Kingston DDR400 Dual Channel RAM
EVGA 7800GT PCIx 256MB
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
Thermaltake Silent Purepower 480w PSU
Windows XP SP2 with all critical updates
Currently running display driver v. 77.77 Forceware

Did you go to Dxdiag and do the D3d tests...everything check out? (start>Run> type in dxdiag)

Is that one THAT much better? If so, I would rather get something high quality and use it for a good 5 years than something that'll die in like 1 1/2. I've heard nothing but good things about PC P&C too so I know I can't go wrong with it. It's just that it's a little expensive...

PC P & C is the best of the best in desktop PSUs.. I personally use a bunch of them. They're loud but they're very powerful..
If you've got the money, get it, but the Fortron and Antec that I've linked in the past post should last you a pretty while too. Those two units are pretty powerful in themselves, for the price of course.

You could always step up to the 420$ 850W SSI if you want unfailable power. 😉

So technically, after purchasing and installing the new PSU, the problems with the graphics should be solved? Does this happen a lot on underpowered video cards?

Technically.. If it isn't a PSU problem, RMA the video card..

It's a win-win situation. You get a stable PSU and you'll get a working video card. 😉

overkill...get something that kensai suggested.

Oh another thing, why is it that D3D games are running with the artifacts but OpenGL games are not? What's up with that?

A friend of mine just installed his Evga 7800GT and it is running fine on his Thermaltake 420W. About the same specs as the 480. From what I have read you need atleast 15A on the 12V rail. It could be the PS but just because it only has 18A does not mean its time to order a new PS.

BTW, I am running my 6800GT at Ultra speeds with my A64 OC'd just a bit and it runs fine on my Thermaltake Silent Purepower 480. The 7800GT pulls less wattage than the Ultra.

Not trying to thread crap or anything, just trying to give you as much info as I can.

Ok, just got my new PSU today. I installed it and ran the same D3D games and still having the same problems. Going to RMA the card soon. Kind of sucks how EVGA doesn't do cross shipping. I'll have to live without a computer for a couple of days. -_-

Since I read that 7800GTs are 'defective' 7800GTXs, I probably got one that was too 'defective'. Ah well.
