Graphics Cards for notebooks

Ok I was wondering what are the ratings of graphics cards for laptops. I mean what is the best and how do they compair ATI to Nvidia. Its hard enough just looking at the different video cards for a desktop but for laptops it seems there are just as many choices. Any help on this subject would be great

Pretty much, as a general rule, the ATI MOBILITY and the nVidia Go parts are slower then their desktop counterparts. Not by much, but they usually operate at lower clock speeds and voltages. Also, the best laptop video I know of, is the 7800GTX Go.

Anybody else wanna chime in here if I'm wrong?

This is an accurate status of current Laptop graphics, however the ATI X1800 should start making its way into the market and I would expect it to be competitive with the 7800 Go series of offerings. Offering ATI buffs an alternative to Nvidia.

one difficulty to this I can think of would be really in testing the graphics card itself. in all benchmarks online, you'll have one set system and just swap in and out different video cards. this is simply impossible with notebooks. you can still get an idea as to how well they work across different models, but it still is not an objective benchmark, or at least one in which we have come to rely upon.

anyways, they're really not all that much off from their desktop siblings, so those for the most part i'd say are good enough.
